The First Teaser Trailer For The Muppets Is Super Meta, Awesome

Director:
James Bobin
Cast:
Jason Segel
Amy Adams
Chris Cooper

If you're not excited for The Muppets we probably should just break up now. For that matter when I bring up the old "it's not you, it's me" routine you should know that it is a total lie, and in this case it is actually you and your Muppet hating soul that are to blame, which may or may not be a nice way to segue to the fake movie in a movie the teaser trailer riffs on. The saddest thing of all is that Green With Envy, complete with fictitious poster below, actually looks better than almost every romantic comedy that comes out. Of course that may just be the bitterness I'm still feeling from watching Something Borrowed talking, but I digress. The Muppets hits theaters November 23rd, presumably their referenced domination has officially started.

Synopsis:
On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate.

Michael Shannon Will Soon Be Asking You To Kneel Before Him

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a Superman casting story that is official and not a rumor! More importantly it's the bad guy, so this part like needs to be good or something, granted if there's anything remotely resembling Snyder's recent flick Sucker Punch it won't really matter who it is as that movie was terrible with a capital T-E-R-R. Seriously, what's up with that?

Those choosing to think good thoughts for the upcoming Man Of Steel just got a serious bit of leverage in their mental battle as Michael Shannon has been cast as Zod, the very same Zod you should be kneeling before. If you're struggling to put the face to the name you may remember Shannon's most recent work as Agent Nelson Van Alden on the fantastic HBO series Boardwalk Empire. The amazing quotes afficianados out there may also remember his John Givings character from Revolutionary Road commending the guts it takes to see the hoplessness along with the emptiness of life.

For those that are still new to the Man Of Steel bonanza Shannon will be starring opposite Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and the incredibly good looking parental unit of Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent. Ironically the good looks didn't need to be justified in this case as we all (should) know by now that [SPOILER ALERT SO SPOILY YOU MIGHT LOSE YOUR MARBLES] Clark isn't exactly of this Earth.   [via the playlist]

The Fighter

The jokes sort of write themselves with this one. Marky Mark was literally born to play this part, and I never thought I'd say that about anything that doesn't involve Dirk Diggler. Bale looks certifiably loony in his bits here as Dicky Eklund which should be a nice changeup from his usual role as the generic male lead post Batman Begins. For all intensive purposes this is director Russell's follow-up to 2004's I Heart Huckabees and while the mood will certainly be different, let's hope the end result of a quality film isn't. From the looks of things that shouldn't be a worry.

Synopsis:
From acclaimed director David O. Russell comes The Fighter, the powerful true story of professional boxers Dickie (Bale) and Micky (Wahlberg). Although they are half brothers, their careers take very different courses. Older brother Dickie does not suffer from a shortage of talent or confidence, but his lack of judgment and humility lead him down a path of self-destruction. After blowing his shot against one of the greatest fighters of his generation, Dickie descends down a dangerous road of drug addiction that robs him of his career, alienates his brother, and eventually lands him in jail. Meanwhile, discouraged from yet another defeat, younger brother Micky, whose talent never seems to match the size of his heart, vanishes into early retirement. But his itch to fight never goes away, and when a rehabilitated Dickie is released from prison and takes over as Micky’s trainer, Micky transforms himself from an underdog into a world champion prized pugilist.
