The US Trailer For The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Is Intense, Prude

Director:
David Fincher
Cast:
Rooney Mara
Daniel Craig
Stellan Skarsgard
Robin Wright

Over the weekend a bootleg copy of the international redband trailer for David Fincher's adaptation of Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo hit the web sending the internet dwelling world in to a fervor. Was it planted by Sony? Is this subversive marketing to fit with the book trilogy's themes? Is Trent Reznor turning in to a relevant musical force again? Wait, is that side boob? Yes, yes it is. It's always nice to be reminded how not every country has ridiculously uptight rules when it comes to sex and nudity and Google searches.  I mean look at the international poster, visible pierced nipples. *waits for Brinks truck*

As for the US version of the trailer, which similarly features Trent Reznor and Karen O's cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song", I'll have to go with "looks incredibly promising" and would like to thank Mr. Fincher for returning to the kind of suspense that has people dying instead of figuring out how to disperse money amongst rich guys that went to Harvard.

Synopsis:
One fateful day several years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses and no evidence. Nearly forty years later, investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) reluctantly accepts the unusual and seemingly unsolvable assignment of finding out what really happened to Harriet. Genius hacker, Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) is drawn into the case and the two form a fragile alliance as they dig into the sinister past of the Vangers and find out just how far they're prepared to go to protect themselves and each other.

Cowboys & Aliens Teaser Has Amnesia, Gadget Arms, Olivia Wilde

Not too shabby but at this point I'm starting to wonder if Kurtzman and Orci actually write lens flares in to their scripts. Either way this looks pretty fun and even though Iron Man 2 was borderline offensive it's pretty clear Favreau knows how to make a good film, remember he didn't direct Couples Retreat. Of course it's a special kind of bonus whenever you get to see "Someone pissed in my Fruit Loops" Harrison Ford, even if he doesn't have the same Inspector Gadget surgery that Daniel Craig did.

My one fear from this trailer is Hollywood decides to remake all the old Clint Eastwood movies with Daniel Craig. Please don't do that.

Synopsis:
1873. Arizona Territory. A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don't welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). It's a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where he's been, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force. With the help of the elusive traveler Ella (Olivia Wilde), he pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents-townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors-all in danger of annihilation. United against a common enemy, they will prepare for an epic showdown for survival.

Rooney Mara Officially Cast As Lisbeth Salander For Millenium Trilogy

After ridiculous amounts of rumors and speculation, Rooney Mara has been cast in the lead role of Lisbeth Salander opposite Daniel Craig in David Fincher's adaptation of Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. The best selling novel is the first of the three part Millenium Trilogy by the late author followed by The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest. Mara won the role over a who's who of younger actresses presumably thanks to her appearance in Fincher's upcoming The Social Network. She also played the role of Nancy in the incredibly meh A Nightmare On Elm Street remake.

The deals for both Craig and Mara are said to include options for the other two films, although it is still unclear whether Fincher will return to the director's chair for those. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is currently set for a December 21, 2011 release.   [via deadline]
