Synopsis:
On a fall night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history, but for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

All the components are there for this to be good, and then you get some Justin Timberlake overacting up in your face and bam, it feels like a bunch of TNT replays are in its future. The story obviously is interesting to a lot of people, even moreso than most probably realize, but there looks like a hefty bit of the bad acting here. Hopefully Fincher pulls it all together and they aren't relying on the social network crutch in all the promo material thus far based on necessity.

Justin Timberlake Cast In Jake Kasdan's Bad Teacher

Oh my gawd, it's Timby, and he's going to be in a movie!  Cuddle bear puppy yogurt!

Justin Timberlake has nabbed the coveted role of the male lead in "Bad Teacher," the Cameron Diaz comedy Jake Kasdan is directing for Columbia.

Molly Shannon and Eric Stonestreet ("Modern Family") are also joining the cast.

The script, by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, follows a foul-mouthed, gold-digging seventh-grade teacher who, after being dumped by her boyfriend, sets her sights on a colleague (Lucy Punch) who is dating a substitute teacher, who also is the scion of a watch fortune.

Jason Segel was cast in the supporting role of a gym teacher, with John Michael Higgins slotted as the principal, but the studio has spent the better part of the new year looking though class photos trying to find its leading man.   [via thr]

All the film Timberlake I have experienced can be found in the abominable The Love Guru and the animated Shrek stuff.  He's been fine on Saturday Night Live and I'd imagine he's been moderately competent in his other roles.  He did land a big part in the upcoming The Social Network about the founding of Facebook, so it will be interesting to see how he performs in what will surely be a highly publicized film.

Director Jake Kasdan will always have a special place in my heart for the great Zero Effect starring Bill Pullman as the world's greatest detective Daryl Zero.  Anything Kasdan is involved in I will at least give a chance, and while anything but spectacular, his other films Orange County and Walk Hard have their moments.  Also, Jason Segel.  Rock.
