Ralph Macchio Is Back And Badder Than Ever

For those of you that have been trying to block it out of your brain, this weekend should finally start the healing process as The Karate Kid remake starring Will Smith's Mini-Me and Jackie Chan hits theaters and should subsequently begin its slow death. The good news is that the original's star is finally seeing a return to the limelight thanks in large part to the upcoming award-winning documentary Wax On, F*ck Off. I feel I should warn you, there's some hard cold truths in this video, and it might not be the Macchio you remember. Either way it seems that now is a better time than ever to pay tribute to that kid from Reseda that won our collective hearts by emulating a maintenance man's balancing trick.

Idiot Brother Paul Rudd Gets Some Hot Sisters

Sometime last week it was announced that Paul Rudd was set to star as the titular character in the comedy My Idiot Brother. The news out there today is that his family just got a lot more interesting/attractive.  

Elizabeth Banks, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer and Rashida Jones will star opposite Paul Rudd in "My Idiot Brother," a comedy being directed Jesse Peretz and produced by Anthony Bregman's Likely Story and Big Beach's Peter Saraf and Marc Turtletaub.

"Brother" centers on an idealist (Rudd) dealing with his over¬bearing mother who crashes at the homes of his three ambitious sisters and brings truth, happiness and a sunny disposition into their lives while also wreaking havoc.

Banks, Deschanel and Mortimer will play the sisters.  Banks is a career-driven single about to get her big break in journalism after spending years writing about accessories at a fashion magazine; Deschanel is a bisexual whose flakiness and lies are getting in the way of moving forward with her caring, responsible girlfriend (Jones); and Mortimer plays a Park Slope mom too worried about having the perfect life and children to notice that her marriage is falling apart.

I'm pretty sure all those fancy words in the block quote were just a disguise for the real meat of it: Zooey Deschanel and Rashida Jones are bisexual lovers. Check that off the things-my-dreams-insisted-were-fact-others-thought-weren't-true list. If this news is any indication of the true powers of my dream list, I'm pretty sure we can expect the Who's The Boss Icecapades Spectacular to be announced any day now.   [via THR]

Jason Segel Takes The Muppets To Theaters Christmas Day 2011

Looks like the little Baby Jesus, in his little golden diaper, watching his little Einstein developmental videos, will have something else to do for his birthday next year, a trip to the theaters to see the return of The Muppets. Yesterday Disney announced that the latest feature film starring Kermit and the gang, and written by Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel, who will co-star, will hit theaters on December 25th, 2011. It seems the duo's original title The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made is gone, as the current working title is indeed The Muppets but I'm guessing we get some changes by release time.

The last Muppet film was 1999's Muppets From Space which managed to gross only 16.6 million. With Segel added to the crew there should be a bigger buzz about the film, and Disney will undoubtedly market the bananas out of it, not to mention the bevy of cameo's that will help to boost the star power. As of now the film will have no release date competition as The Muppets is the only film scheduled to drop Christmas Day; however, the film will be dealing with Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo and Steven Spielberg's The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn which both are scheduled to hit theaters two days earlier.   [via box office mojo]

Behind The Scenes Of Pixar's Latest Short Film Day & Night

Here is a nice little behind the scenes clip from the newest Pixar short Day & Night which will premiere in front of Toy Story 3. You pretty much learn as much plot as you can from the clip, although it clearly is a bit weird to describe as the actual footage still leaves quite a bit of wiggle room. The official synopsis isn't really any clearer:

When Day, a sunny fellow, encounters Night, a stranger of distinctly darker moods, sparks fly! Day and Night are frightened and suspicious of each other at first, and quickly get off on the wrong foot. But as they discover each other’s unique qualities — and come to realize that each of them offers a different window onto the same world — the friendship helps both to gain a new perspective.

I am a gambling man and I'd gladly wager anyone that this short will be awesome just like the rest of them, although I'm extremely partial to the amazing Partly Cloudy that showed before Up. Day & Night will premiere along with that Toy Story 3 movie that hits theaters June 18th.   [via /film]

I can't even imagine how pumped Jenny was when she got this back in the 80's. So that was fun. Part of me wants to pretend that trailer wasn't as bad as it was just because I like some of the pieces involved, but barring a red band trailer that features a drunk Hasselhoff eating cheeseburgers or a killer new Billy Ocean theme song I think I'm going to have to pass. What's that you say?  It's in 3D?  I'm in.  *fart sound*

Synopsis: 
In a contemporary re-imagining of the classic tale, Jack Black stars as Gulliver, a big-talking mailroom clerk who, after he’s mistakenly assigned a travel piece on the Bermuda Triangle, suddenly finds himself a giant among men when he washes ashore on the hidden island of Lilliput, home to a population of very tiny people. At first enslaved by the diminutive and industrious Liliputians, and later declared their hero, Gulliver comes to learn that it’s how big you are on the inside that counts.

Watch The First Five Minutes Of Get Him To The Greek

Good news for those of you out there that are totally on the fence about seeing Get Him To The Greek, the story of fictional rocker Aldous Snow from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, as the first five minutes are now available to view online. While you won't see any of Jonah Hill's character, you get spared any Sean Combs as the opening is essentially your standard True Hollywood Story type montage, which isn't exactly my favorite but they certainly get a lot of exposition out of the way not to mention Mario Lopez. The Nicholas Stoller directed film hits theaters tomorrow and from what I've heard there is quite a bit of funny in it, we should have a review up next week.

John Cusack To Play A Serial Killer In Jack

John Cusack is one of those guys that frequently jumps from being cool to being annoying back to cool and so on. Most of his filmography is pretty great and includes some all-time classics, but then he gives interviews and complains about the 80s and you wonder what his problem is. To his credit when he's not playing his trademark whiney moper, Cusack actually chooses some interesting roles. According to Bloody Disgusting, his newest role will be no exception as he has signed on to star in Jack, which will be directed by Brad Anderson.

Cusack will play the role of a serial killer who gets in a near fatal car accident minutes after his last kill. The overplayed use of amnesia will be vital as the focus of the story is the relationship between Cusack's character and the female doctor who treats him. Cliche abound as the two fall in love just as the amnesia starts to wear off and Cusack's character starts to remember his sordid past. Shooting is expected to begin in August based on a script by David Venable.

While the whole thing sounds like something you can catch on a movie channel at any moment of the day, I don't remember Cusack going the amnesia route quite yet. Serial killer films can be quite a bit of fun so hopefully this isn't a rom-com with fifteen minutes of suspense, but considering the star involved that wouldn't shock me.
