TAFKAP To Release 3 Albums in 2009

If you have ever wanted to be a writer you should not read this next part, as the writer of the article lays out the greatest night ever with Prince as his job. Insane.

The man himself greeted me in a candelit study, where he was laboring over a laptop with his Web designers, Anthony Malzone and Scott Addison Clay.

The next five hours took me from that room to a car Prince referred to as "Miles Davis," where we listened to one set of songs; into a back room furnished with a round bed, faux-fur carpeting and a plexiglass Rhodes piano, where he played cuts by his new protege, the comely Bria Valente; and into that white limo, where the entirety of "Lotus Flower," the album previewed earlier this month on Indie 103.1, boomed through the speakers as we drove through Hollywood.

The exciting part of the article is that the Purple One plans to release 3 new albums this year. Although one of those is to be released by his protege Bria Volente.

Some more specifics from the article:

Prince will release not one, but three albums in the new year. He's in final negotiations with "a major retailer" to distribute the music in physical form, and a highly interactive website will also provide an opportunity to buy. He's not working with a record label. "The gatekeepers have to change," he said several times throughout the evening.

He's found his way back to the sound of "When Doves Cry." The first disc, tentatively titled "MPLSOUND," is an electro-flavored solo effort recorded at Paisley Park Studios. Prince experimented with Pro Tools and "new ways of recording" on these trippy, experimental pop songs.

He loves his guitar. As the tracks played on Indie 103.1 indicated, "Lotus Flower" is rooted in the instrument. Prince said he refocused on his playing while performing live dates with the singer Tamar Davis in 2006; with the spotlight trained on someone else, he could fall back in love with solos and riffs. "Lotus Flower" is a varied album, featuring cuts recorded over the course of two years, but standout tracks include some heavy rockers -- especially the apocalyptic "Dreamer," which Prince said was partly inspired by the radical black comedian Dick Gregory.

Most of that sounds awesome, although I have no idea who Dick Gregory is.

Barkley had legit excuse for DUI

TMZ - When Charles Barkley was busted in Arizona early this morning for DUI, he told cops he ran a stop sign because he was in a hurry to get some oral sex. According to the officer who wrote the report, "He told me that he ran the stop sign because he was in a hurry to pick up the girl I saw get in the passenger seat." The officer continues: "He asked me to admit that she was 'hot.' He asked me, 'You want the truth?' When I told him I did he said, 'I was gonna drive around the corner and get a b**w job. He then explained that she had given him a 'b**w job' one week earlier and said it was the best one he had ever had in his life." The report says when Barkley was taken to the station, he told one of the employees, "I'll tattoo my name on your ass" if he helped "get him out of the DUI." According to the report, "He laughed and then quickly corrected himself and said, 'I'll tattoo your name on my ass' and then laughed again." The report also says officers "found a handgun in the vehicle" which was immediately impounded. The report doesn't say if the handgun was legal or not, and the only thing that we know for sure was loaded...

Normally I would never condone drunk driving, but can you really blame The Round Mound of Rebound here? He may not be a role model, but he's certainly in my Top 3 list of people I'd like to hangout with for a weekend in Vegas. The guy clearly knows how to party.

Frank Stallone Has Issues, Episodes

After Frank Stallone's embarrassing performance on Hulk Hogan's Celebrity Championship Wrestling, I can't imagine why he thinks he should get back on the screen. Apparently he still has some unresolved jealousy issues.

In the as-yet-untitled show, Frank will show off his talents and share his life, and relationships with his brother and psychic mother Jackie.

And he is relishing the opportunity to finally make his name, telling the National Enquirer, "For 32 years I have been Rocky-ed to death. Now I'm trying to change the public's perception of me.

"I'm extremely proud that Sly created Rocky, but I got really tired of that.

"I was signed to RCA records before Rocky came along and I'm angry that people think I'm riding on my brother's coat tails.

"I want the recognition I deserve."

That being said I will take Stallone's psychic mom and Sly anyway I can get them. Frank's dead to me. What are your thoughts on the Frank Stallone Show?

Get Ready For More Bono, New U2 Album in March

Usually every time a new U2 album comes out you are bombarded with an in your face marketing campaign where you feel like you actually know Bono, followed by two more years of endless commercials using the new hits. Luckily the albums are usually good. I am sure this will be no different.

No Line On The Horizon, the new studio album from U2, will be released on Monday 2nd March 2009.

Written and recorded in various locations, No Line On The Horizon is the group’s 12th studio album and is their first release since the 9 million selling album How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, released in late 2004.

Sessions for No Line On The Horizon began last year in Fez, Morocco, continued in the band’s own studio in Dublin, before moving to New York’s Platinum Sound Recording Studios, and finally being completed at Olympic Studios in London.

The album calls on the production talents of long-time collaborators Brian Eno and Danny Lanois, with additional production by Steve Lillywhite.

Steve Kimock Crazy Engine with Melvin Seals

This sounds pretty rad.

From the Kimock.com

Steve Kimock launches his long-awaited, new nationally touring band, Steve Kimock Crazy Engine. This is Kimock unleashed. The ensuing revelry, featuring Melvin Seals, will push the limits of rock and roll, rhythm and blues, gospel and soul for undeniably feel-good music. While the complete six-person line-up won't be announced until 2009, expect gigantic things from Crazy Engine in the coming year. Stay tuned for Spring Tour dates and then some...

I'll update with the Spring Dates when they come.

Vote Lazarus 2009

I didn't do this in Photoshop, although I am pretty sure someone else did. For all intensive purposes this is totally real and featured in Variety magazine, so here is the way too awesome for words For Your Consideration ad for Robert Downey Jr as Kirk Lazarus from the movie Tropic Thunder. I think he may have some tough competition against the Heath Ledger tragic story, but he still has my vote, granted I don't get one.

Langerado Lineup is Ugly

With the initial announcement planned for early November, and then the postponed announcement to Dec 8, things have started to look a little dicey for Langerado. Based on the internet steam, it seems nobody is excited about the change from Big Cypress to downtown Miami. With all of the other historically important events taking place that weekend (in Hampton, VA), the excitement for Langerado, generally regarded as one of the year's best festivals, has died down considerably. So much so that over the last 24 hours, during which the lineup announcement time has passed, a strong interweb rumor has developed that the show may simply be cancelled. Late last night the Langerado team updated their site to apologize to their fans for the delay, but it will be posted at 11 am EST Dec 9.

The fact that there are no changes to their website and it is 11:15 EST isn't helping the cancelled rumors. Hopefully for all those people without Phish tickets, like yours truly, Langerado will announce their best lineup yet within the hour, and Phish tickets will be on stubhub for face. And Fiona Apple will come over and nervously ask me out on a date, at which time she will also drop off 12 new demos she's been working on. Nice work Fiona, I approve.

I'll update this post with the lineup if a lineup is announced today.

Update: We have a lineup, and no wonder they were slow announcing it. It pretty much sucks.

Death Cab For Cutie • Snoop Dogg • Thievery Corporation (Live) • Slightly Stoopid • Ryan Adams and the Cardinals • Dashboard Confessional • The Pogues • Matisyahu • Flogging Molly • Michael Franti & Spearhead • Broken Social Scene • Cafe Tacuba • Umphrey's McGee • The Disco Biscuits • Robert Randolph & The Family Band • Pepper • The Faint • Cold War Kids • Steel Pulse • Public Enemy • Gym Class Heroes • Tricky • Girl Talk • Chromeo • Mute Math • Bad Brains • Ozomatli • Against Me! • George Clinton & Parliament / Funkadelic • Tortoise • DeVotchKa • Black Kids • Grupo Fantasma • Holy F*ck • Budos Band • Tokyo Police Club • Lotus • The Virgins • The Gaslight Anthem • King Khan and the Shrines • Lucero • Murs • Ra Ra Riot • Tortured Soul • Rebelution • K'Naan • The Egg • Zac Brown Band • Tigercity • The Aggrolites • Cloud Cult • Spam Allstars • Rachel Goodrich • Blue King Brown • The Heavy Pets • Awesome New Republic • The Postmarks • Suenalo Sound System • Live Painting by LEBO

I noticed the gap in the Cardinals' tour, as well as Umphrey's and the Disco Biscuits, so none of those have me that excited, especially considering Ryan Adams' specific distaste for festivals. Seriously, that lineup looks horrible. What are your thoughts on the 2009 Langerado lineup. Was it worth the wait?
