Syfy Announces B Movie Mogul Otherwise Known As Best Thing Ever

If you have followed this site for any amount of time it should come as no secret how much we love terribly awesome movies, even moreso the unabashed version which have become a staple of the Syfy channel's Saturday night programming. The cable network is taking their creature-feature specialities to the public with a new website that will allow fans to help create a brand new Syfy original.

Cross a dinosaur with a modern predator for us Hollywood Reporter:

The network is launching a production site, B Movie Mogul, where fans can vote and pitch ideas for the film, from title, creatures, wardrobe, dialogue and character deaths to promotional taglines. The resulting "script" will be shot as a two-hour Syfy original movie to be released next year.

"We constantly have fans e-mailing with compliments, complaints and questions about our movies, and this is a way of involving the fans in a new way," said Thomas Vitale, executive vp programming and original movies. "This is where entertainment is going and just the start of many more things of this nature for Syfy."

Syfy is teaming with entertainment site IGN on the site; the partnership will last 15 months and launch Friday. The first stage will have fans voting on one of three overall concepts for the movie: a 2010 apocalypse story, a Bermuda Triangle-set creature feature or a Roswell, N.M.-set alien movie.

It's hard for me to find anything not to love about this idea. It's going to be like Snakes On A Plane times ten million, and hopefully some of you SHA loyalists will get in on the fun. If we're lucky casting will also be controllable and finally Tony Danza will make his triumphant return to comedy as the local barber that has to hunt down some bio-engineered zombie alien unicorns that play marbles with human eyeballs for money.

Jenny And Johnny Detail Debut Album, Announce Tour

It seems like the whole couples-making-music thing is in full swing and I don't mean the boy and girl combos like She & Him. I'm talking about the real couples, like Trent Reznor's How To Destroy Angels project, or Jack White producing his wife Karen Elson's debut album. Now indie wonder girl Jenny Lewis has partnered with her real life partner Jonathan Rice for the inventively named Jenny and Johnny.

The duo just announced a bunch of stuff including some tour dates, album details, and even their first tune, which is available for the price of a functioning email address. There is no official release date for the debut album titled I'm Having Fun Now, but if the pre-order page is any indication you can expect the album to ship in "late summer". Starting September 1st in Santa Cruz, the band will head up the west coast before seeing their tour head across the country, making a point to skip Arizona and all that insanity down there.

On top of all that goodness we have our first taste of what to expect from Jenny and Johnny, a guitar heavy pop number called "Scissor Runner" with both members trading off vocals.  Certainly a good start. The tune is streaming below and the download widget is available after the jump along with full tour dates. Tickets will be going on sale through the usual suspects later this week.   [via CoS]

Eastbound & Down Returns September 26th

The second season of HBO's Eastbound & Down, which will see Kenny Powers in the Mexican League, has an official premiere date thanks to a new little teaser commercial which you can see below. Danny McBride will return as the burnt-out star on September 26th in addition to new cast members Michael Pena and Ana de la Reguera. Hunter Stephenson over at Viceland recently made a visit to the set in Puerto Rico that resulted in the amazing picture you see above featuring super fan Stevie Janowski "alongside a mean-ass new character". Best mustache ever, he's clearly a bat boy.

Arcade Fire Give The Suburbs A Tracklist, Stream Two Singles

Are you ready for some Arcade Fire news fellow revelers of awesome? Looks like the rumors of a double album weren't totally made up as the tracklist was just revealed and it is sixteen songs deep. That's not even including some bonus disc or marketing gimmick, just an LP with sixteen tunes. Fantabulous.

During my little internet sabbatical earlier this week there were also a couple new tunes from the album that made their way online, which are both apparently the lead singles from the album. The first "Ready To Start" is apparently the US single while BBC Radio debuted the first official UK single "We Used To Wait". You can check out streams of both tunes below.  [via CoS]

Phish Cover Tom Waits' Cold Water, Debut Idea In Portsmouth

As I alluded to earlier I've been out of town for a few days, and although my absence has coincided with the start of Phish's summer tour that is unfortunately not the reason for my absence. Hopefully you've been following my advice and are getting your fix over at YEMblog, so I'm not going to spend much time on what's been covered already as there is a treasure trove over there from the first few shows, which look pretty awesome from what I have seen.

Last night the fellas hit up nTelos Pavillion in Portsmouth, VA where they busted out a brand new tune with Mike on vocals called "Idea" as well as their first official Tom Waits cover in the form of "Cold Water".  Thanks to the awesomeness of a mister drewski1986 over at Etree you can now listen to them both below. The soundboards are also available from Live Phish, although I'd like to point out purchasing the recently released Live Phish App for $3.99 will also receive a download code for one free mp3 show of your choice.  Just saying.

My Morning Jacket To Play 5 Albums In 5 Nights At Terminal 5

Holy Caped Crusader this sounds fun. My Morning Jacket have just announced a run of shows in New York City where the band will play one of their studio albums in their entirety each night. Five is definitely the theme for this run as the band will play five shows, one for each studio album in their catalog, at Terminal 5 in New York City. The sorta-residency will kick off October 18th with the band's debut The Tennessee Fire.

Of added awesome, and to fill out the rest of the evening, the official wording states the band will play a full length album "along with additional songs and covers from each album’s time period." Well, that's an eleven year span if I can still do arithmetic so be prepared for some fun covers hijacking your memory lane. Tickets for the shows go on pre-sale starting June 14th with a general onsale on the 18th. For the more adventurous, and thereby awesome, five day packages will be available for $205, not too shabby. For more information on tickets head over to the Terminal 5 website.

Jason Segel Takes The Muppets To Theaters Christmas Day 2011

Looks like the little Baby Jesus, in his little golden diaper, watching his little Einstein developmental videos, will have something else to do for his birthday next year, a trip to the theaters to see the return of The Muppets. Yesterday Disney announced that the latest feature film starring Kermit and the gang, and written by Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel, who will co-star, will hit theaters on December 25th, 2011. It seems the duo's original title The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made is gone, as the current working title is indeed The Muppets but I'm guessing we get some changes by release time.

The last Muppet film was 1999's Muppets From Space which managed to gross only 16.6 million. With Segel added to the crew there should be a bigger buzz about the film, and Disney will undoubtedly market the bananas out of it, not to mention the bevy of cameo's that will help to boost the star power. As of now the film will have no release date competition as The Muppets is the only film scheduled to drop Christmas Day; however, the film will be dealing with Cameron Crowe's We Bought A Zoo and Steven Spielberg's The Adventures Of Tintin: Secret Of The Unicorn which both are scheduled to hit theaters two days earlier.   [via box office mojo]

A Bunch Of Stuff About AMC's New Show The Walking Dead

AMC has released a whole bunch of promo material this week for the latest addition to their killer original programming, the Frank Daranbont produced adaptation of Robert Kirkman's zombie comic book series The Walking Dead.  The show officially started production this past Wednesday in Atlanta for what is currently set for a six episode season.  Just to get it out in the open I should admit I'm not much of a zombie guy, but AMC's track record with Daranbont behind the show are more than enough to get my hopes up, not to mention the stuff making the rounds looks pretty awesome.

To give you a quick rundown filled with enthusiasm you can check out this behind the scenes featurette where Daranbont explains that he wants to "do for zombies what Mad Men has done for advertising." Alrighty then.

As you probably assumed, the lead image is actually one of the titular Walkers and they look sufficiently creepy. Add to that this collection of some concept designs for the zombification process and you can start to get a real sense for the gritty tone they are going for. You can check out the individual stages here.

That's not all as Vulture recently sat down with series creator Robert Kirkman for an interview that amps up the excitement levels even further which you can check out here. For more info on the show, including more pictures of the Walkers like above, check out the official blog over at AMCTVThe Walking Dead, starring Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Laurie Holden, is set to premiere in October.

Outside Lands 2010 Lineup Is Here!

Via an unbelievably lame video that was presumably the main hold up in releasing the lineup, Outside Lands has announced the acts that will be descending on Golden Gate Park August 14th and 15th. Not too many big surprises from what has been expected aside from The Strokes being one of the bigger acts.  Sadly the highly rumored Arcade Fire won't be making an appearance but I'm sure they'll be coming to a town near you soon enough. We'll update this post with more info as it comes but for now you can check out the lineup video below.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow starting at $75, with two day passes starting at $125.  You can grab them through Ticketmaster and if you click on this fancy link here you'll be supporting Super Hella Awesome at no charge to yourself.  In a way that's how you stick it to the man ... with awesome.
