Leonardo DiCaprio Eyes J Edgar Hoover Role For Eastwood
This is pretty gosh darn exciting. Deadline is reporting that Leonardo DiCaprio is in talks to star in Clint Eastwood's upcoming J Edgar Hoover biopic. The story makes clear that nothing is official but if they are talking it is going to happen considering both can pretty much choose whatever they want. Even though Clint seems to make a movie every five months, this would be his first time working with Leo, and that's probably too great of an opportunity for DiCaprio to pass up.
Now I don't me to piss in the Cheerio's here, but there's some news at the end of the Deadline story that makes me feel all sorts of meh.
When Hoover is depicted in films, it is usually in unflattering fashion. But I've heard this script described as "peeling back the curtain on the life of Hoover" with no cross-dressing claims.
Some people might think this isn't that big of a deal, but considering what I wrote when I first heard of the project you might understand my Debbie Downering.
I'm hoping Clint is looking at this as a way to enlighten the world to the dangerous aspects that Hoover brought into the American government, as opposed to the standard dramatic fare where we are "peeling the layers off a troubled and misunderstood soul".
Let's hope that's just the script and we get some tweaking involved once the filming goes underway. Considering Clint is famous for his efficient shoots I have my doubts. We'll keep you updated.
