Spiderman Do-Over Gets Release Date, 3D Treatment

It's official.  The Spiderman do-over is going to be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.  Seemed pretty obvious when the whole do-over mess started.  Newly appointed director Marc Webb (must.......resist......puns......) and the rest of the Do-Overers are set to start production this year.  No casting news as of yet but we'll keep you posted.

Of course this makes sense when you think of Spiderman flying through the city and shooting webs everywhere, and the fact that Avatar just made a gazillion dollars, but for some out there it may seem worrisome.  Why?  I'm assuming it's because you are afraid of change, but get ready buster cuz this is only the beginning.  I'm pretty sure Steven Seagal is planning a 3D re-release of Above The Law right now.  Can you even imagine how awesome the limb breaking will be?   [via latino review]

Sony Starting Spiderman Over Without Raimi, Maguire

I should clear the air here first and make the full disclaimer that I thought Spiderman 3 was laughably bad, borderline Transformers 2 level, and the montage where Peter Parker is the douchey sleazeball is literally one of the worst scenes I can think of.  Ever.  That being said Sony is stupid.  They have decided to start the Spiderman franchise over, and thus are no longer employing the services of Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi, and presumably all the others in the new Spidey world.

Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012. Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.

Wait a minute, that sounds exactly like the first Spiderman with Tobey Maguire.  It's pretty amazing that studios are so damn greedy/remake happy that they would be willing to announce they are starting a franchise over the day they announce they are cancelling the planned 4th in the series.  Oh, to be fair they are waiting a year in between, which just so happens to allow them the extra time to add 3D to the production and capitalize on the Avatar craze and ....... make more money.

I really hope this thing bombs as bad as The Jay Leno Show.  Maybe they will cast Jaden Smith as Peter Parker, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air as his father, and Adam Sandler as the Green Goblin.  It's not like they don't run that place anyway. [via]
