True Grit

True Grit

So this looks good, which is quite a relief considering how scary the idea of remaking True Grit is on paper. Thankfully we have the brothers Coen behind the camera so it really wasn't all that scary in the first place. As for the trailer it's pretty clear that the Dude, or El Duderino, knows how to rock an eye patch. I'd also like to give a special shoutout to what looks to be an amazing sideburns/mustache combo for Matt Damon.

Synopsis:
Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross's (Hailee Steinfeld) father has been shot in cold blood by the coward Tom Chaney (Josh Brolin), and she is determined to bring him to justice. Enlisting the help of a trigger-happy, drunken U.S. Marshal, Rooster Cogburn (Jeff Bridges), she sets out with him -- over his objections -- to hunt down Chaney. Her father's blood demands that she pursue the criminal into Indian territory and find him before a Texas Ranger named LeBoeuf (Matt Damon) catches him and brings him back to Texas for the murder of another man.

Coen Brothers Find Their Mattie For True Grit Remake

Everybody's favorite filmmaking brothers, Joel and Ethan Coen, have just cast the missing ingredient in their planned remake of the John Wayne classic True Grit.  Set to join Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin is relatively unknown thirteen year old Hailee Steinfeld who will play the vital Mattie Ross role.

The 13-year old will play the centerpiece of a new adaptation of the Charles Portis novel, with Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin starring. Mattie Ross is the 14-year old spitfire whose father has been mowed down in cold blood by Tom Chaney (Brolin). Determined to bring the killer to justice, Mattie enlists hard-drinking U.S. marshal Rooster Cogburn (Bridges) to track the killer before a Texas Ranger (Damon) does. The Coens are producing with Scott Rudin.  [via deadline hollywood]

Conisdering the original is one of my all time favorite westerns, the Coens ability to make fine fine cinema, and the cast already in hand, I have a pretty serious nerd-on for this movie.  We'll keep you updated with any new details but for now just remember, she's only thirteen.
