Rose Hill Drive: Moon is the New Earth
Album:
Moon Is The New Earth
Band:
Rose Hill Drive
Release Date:
Jun 24 2008 - 1. Sneak Out - This is the single and was my first exposure to these guys. The video (posted below) is fun to watch and the song is straight up rock of the radio friendly variety. Makes me feel like putting on the Meat Puppets or something. Fun song, good start.
2. Altar Junkie - Nice change up, still rocking, still fun. Great start. Wait, are sure this isn't a Josh Homme side project?
3. Laughing in the Streets - Enjoyable, they can slow it down a little and still slightly rock. "Heres what I heard, moon is the new earth". Death is the new birth, etc. Those cheap tricks always work on me.
4. Trans Am - How could you ever go wrong with a song called Trans Am? You can't. Best part is this one actually totally doesn't suck so you don't have to convince yourself it is cool all the time, you can just enjoy it. Trailer parks all over the world have a new pick up line and theme song: "I used to care like you, I don't give a damn, hop inside my................Trans Am!".
5. A Better Way - A straight forward rocker, nothing exceptional but no mistakes really either. Moving along nicely.
6. My Light - Loving this bouncy number. On behalf of myself and the rest of the members of PAFBRA (People Against Forced Ballads on Rock Albums), I would like to thank the members of Rose Hill Drive for refusing to go full ballad.
7. The 8th Wonder - Rock. Really like the flow of this album. Although I am pretty sure Scott Weiland will get some sort of royalties for this song.
8. One Night Stand - Nice changeup. Love the way he sings "this is a one night stand". Fun song, fun lyrics, makes me feel like I might get laid. No complaints here.
9. Godfather - More rock, thanks for that, but it is starting to get a little bit stale here. Let's get high?
10. Do You Wanna Get High? - Sure, why not. Nothing better to do, that's for sure. Song is cool too. Most excited to see this one live.
11. I'm On To You - A fun rocker again, seems like a specialty. Fun hook, nice drum fill into the scream, always a good time. Seems like another fun live song.
12. Always Waiting - Not my favorite song, just not really digging the vocals. I think I would have preferred the 11 song album with this as the B side and I'm On To You as the closer. That being said I thought the last bar finished off the album really well. Go figure.
Overall I enjoyed the album but I am not about to run and join the Fan Club. Look forward to hearing how these songs sound in a live environment and a very high decibel, until then hop inside my Trans Am!
