New Byrne Documentary Ride, Rise, Roar Debuts

The premiere for the new David Byrne documentary Ride, Rise, Roar premiered at SXSW on Monday.  If the early reviews are to be trusted this seems like it may be the second classic documentary that chronicles some of the genius that is David Byrne.  Of course the other film I speak of is Jonathan Demme's fantastic Stop Making Sense

Part of the reason I wanted to post this is that there is a newish trailer (above) for the film compared to the last time I mentioned the project.  That and the fact that everyone is saying it's awesome. For those that are interested there is also a nice interview by Red Carpet Crash with the film's director David Hillman Curtis that occurred following the premiere, which is included below.

We'll keep you updated with theatrical dates and all that jazz when they become available.  Head on over to the film's official site for some more background and other goodies.

Trailer For New David Byrne Film Ride, Rise, Roar

I had no idea this was coming but consider me pumped.  That's what she said.  There is a brand new David Byrne movie titled Ride, Rise, Roar.  Awesome.

RIDE, RISE, ROAR is a David Byrne concert film that blends riveting onstage performances with intimate details of the creative collaborations that make the music and performance happen.

Shot with multiple cameras over several concerts during the 08/09 tour, the film blends the energy and charisma of classic Talking Heads with the heartfelt pathos of David Byrne and Brian Eno’s most recent collaboration.

Between the songs, the film achieves an unprecedented intimacy with David Byrne and the band, documenting behind-the-scenes auditions, rehearsals, and interviews with key players while revealing the creative process that led to the show's unique fusion of pop music and modern dance.  [via]

If you happen to be heading to SXSW you can catch some screenings of the film there.  For more information on Ride, Rise, Roar and to view the trailer head over to the official site.   [via the playlist]

New Live David Byrne EP Streaming And For Charity

It's been a great couple of years with David Byrne so front and center in the music world. It's kind of like everything is right in the world again. As per usual, Byrne is doing things his own unique way and has just announced a live EP he will now be selling with all the proceeds going to Amnesty International.

Some time ago Amnesty International asked if I might do "something" for that organization this year- (in previous years I had done one of my tour dates as a benefit for them). Amnesty has such an amazing and consistent track record of speaking out and helping to illuminate courageous people who might otherwise not be heard from so the answer was "yes." It was decided to record some songs from my current tour for them to be sold as a download with the proceeds going to Amnesty. As there are no physical costs with digital distribution this means more of the sales percentage actually goes to where it's supposed to. So, thank you for supporting a great organization and I hope you like these recordings too.

The EP download is only $3.99 so if you like what you hear, or are just feeling generally charitable, you should go ahead and buy the album over at Byrne's website. Remember it is for charity, and a good one at that, and the tunes are great.

The player is available after the jump because it starts automatically and it can be annoying if you don't know where it is coming from or feel like watching other videos. Just right click on the post title or more awesome stuff and open a new tab and you can keep browsing this page while the music automatically plays. Rock.

Everything That Happens Will Happen Today

In a move of sheer super hella awesomeness David Byrne and Brian Eno have released their new album on their website featuring a stream of the new album in its entirety. Hooray technology! They even encourage people to share the stream, and as a fan of crossing swords since I was 5, I mightily agree. Who has my eyeliner?
