Jamie Lidell

Jamie Lidell's Telephone Video Is An Ascot And A Homemade Biscuit

Jamie Lidell has certainly been in front of the cameras quite a bit lately with some awesome recent appearances on a Take Away Show and Black Cab Sessions, not to mention a couple of music videos. Apparently he loves it as he's back with one of the more official variety, this time for the Compass tune "Telephone" which was directed by Lindsey Rome. To be fair I'm not sure how you could describe it better than the man did himself:

Exploring the libidinal economics of modern telecomms, “I Wanna Be Your Telephone” was always ripe for a tantalizing, uninhibited stream of images to accompany its naughty lyrical flow. Well, here it is! It’s a dance routine, a mini picture, an ascot, a homemade biscuit, a velvet drape, a hat, a pipe and a satin slip of a video … Relax in the knowledge that naughty is still real nice.   [via stereogum]

I absolutely love everything about "libidinal economics" and wish to subscribe to your newsletter. Aside from all the videos, Lidell and his killer live show are still managing to stay busy, you can check out dates at the official site.

Jamie Lidell Brings Some Compass Tunes To A Take Away Show

Recently one of the best sites on the internet decided to have some fun with one of the most interesting musicians out there. The appropriate parties involved here are La Blogotheque doing a Take Away Show with noise making soul freak Jamie Lidell.  Armed with a guitar, some drum sticks, and a ridiculously large cowbell, Lidell and the rest of his touring band roam the streets making all sorts of amazing sounds out of everything, even earning a thumbs up from some city workers.

The eleven joyous minutes will get you versions of "Enough's Enough", "I Wanna Be Your Telephone", "Your Sweet Boom", as well as a wide array of random musical shenanigans. Good times for sure.  Lidell is bringing the fun back to the states starting in June so make sure to catch his insanely awesome live show while you can. Dates are available after the jump.

Jamie Lidell Brings The Ring To A Black Cab Session

Wowsers this is all sorts of awesome. The most recent Black Cab Session features none other than soul funk magician Jamie Lidell performing The Ring off of his awesome new album Compass. While it's not as abstract as the official video counterpart, it's certainly fun to watch Lidell beatboxing and supplying all the noise tinkering for a solo rendition of the tune in the back of a cab. You can officially be in super excited mode as the new album hits stores on Tuesday.

Fans might also want to check out this recent interview with Pitchfork where Lidell talks about Compass, Prince, and Beck among other things. The live band is currently overseas but will return for some North American dates in the summer including a stop at Lollapalooza.  Dates are availble after the jump.

Two New Jamie Lidell Tunes From Compass

So with these two new songs courtesy of our brothers from another mother Some Kind Of Awesome we now have four of the fourteen songs that will make up the new Jamie Lidell album Compass.  Of added importance is that the two newest tunes, Enough's Enough and Your Sweet Boom, are totally radical.  Hooray radical.

Lidell will be performing at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on April 27th as well as an April 29th show at the Troubadour in LA before returning to Europe for a slew of dates.

Jamie Lidell Has A Video For The Ring, An Intro To Compass

A while back we gave you a listen to the title track from Jamie Lidell's upcoming album Compass, and now we have some more awesomeness to share from the soul funk gadget master.  Earlier today Pitchfork.tv put up the wonderfully weird music video of sorts for The Ring, the sixth track on the upcoming album.

Jamie has also prepped a brand new band that will be playing a few shows, mostly in Europe, but he did find some time to squeeze in New York and Los Angeles.  Compass is set for a May 18th release but you can check out this awesome Video Introduction To Compass below to get pumped.  Tour dates and the Compass 14 song (ed: 14!!!) tracklisting are listed after the jump.  Awesome.   [via warp records]
