Watch The Full Monsters Of Folk Austin City Limits Episode

We may be on the verge of a new Bright Eyes album, but that doesn't mean shows filmed a few months ago that are just now airing have forgotten about that other little thing Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis did with friends M. Ward and Yim Yames, the Monsters of Folk. It's no secret how much we love the Yim Yames around these parts so we didn't forget that the supergroup's Austin City Limits episode finally aired over the weekend, but if you did we've got it streaming here for you. The twelve song set takes up a wonderful hour of your time so get comfy.  [via twentyfourbit]

John Prine Brings Yim Yames And All The Best To Letterman

Take note, this isn't your standard Letterman performance. The legendary John Prine has a tribute album coming out next month called Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows: The Music of John Prine that features the songwriter collaborating with some killer mondern artists like Justin Vernon, The Avett Brothers, Conor Oberst, and, as evidenced here, Yim Yames of My Morning Jacket who adds support to the Prine classic "All The Best". Just a fantastic duet, their voices go together like peanut butter and jelly, or acid and light shows.  Either way prettay prettay awesome.

Prine also just released the live pseudo greatest hits album In Person & On Stage this week. Broken Hearts & Dirty Windows will be released on June 22nd.   [via the audio perv]

The Roots' How I Got Over Gets A Release Date, Cover Art

It appears that The Roots long delayed new studio album How I Got Over will finally be released June 22nd. That is only if you believe beautiful hair owner and drummer Questlove who recently posted the date as well as a link to the official cover art pictured above. Normally a new Roots album can come and go without setting off the hipster alarm, but that may not be the case this time as one of the tracks on the new album features a sample of Joanna Newsom's 2004 tune "Book Of Right-On". Not to make it an exclusive thing, the new album will also feature Jim James on a re-worked version of the Monsters Of Folk tune "Dear God."   [via CoS]

Yim Yames Fighting The Good Fight With Appalachian Voices Tour

My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, or as he's liking to go by these days Yim Yames, just announced the Appalachian Voices Tour which will serve as an effort to raise awareness to the devestating process of Mountaintop Removal coal mining throughout Appalachia. Joining Mr Yames on the nine date tour will be Daniel Martin Moore and Ben Sollee. Their thoughts on the topic:

“The people and the land of Appalachia are too important to us as a nation to be sacrificed for something as short-sighted as Mountaintop Removal (MTR) coal mining. Our cultural stake in the region, from its music to its log cabins, is an indispensable part of our history and identity as Americans. People all over the world know our country music, our dances and our stories and they call them American. They are the fruit of Appalachia.” Ben Sollee, Daniel Martin Moore and Yim Yames.

Tickets for the newly announced shows, aside from the Folk Festival, will go on sale this Friday, May 21st through Ticketmaster.  For more details on the project you can head over here.

Yim Yames, Yo La Tengo, YMSB Join Blind Boys Of Alabama For Shows

Curating is really all the rage these days with Wilco, The National, and now The Blind Boys Of Alabama getting into the act.  The legendary Gospel group will be curating three nights of music July 12th,14th, and 16th at Lincoln Center in New York City, each with a uniquely awesome lineup. Per the Lincoln Center website:

The Blind Boys of Alabama curate, host, and perform in three distinct programs developed specially for Festival audiences. Each night features a different musical journey with special artists from many walks of life, joining The Blind Boys in a celebration of what it means to perform music, in any genre, that is not only entertaining but moving. These concerts are inspired in part by the group's latest collaborative release Duets, which showcases the band's unique ability to blend with a wide variety of musical styles and artists.

The first night holds a special place in my heart as it includes My Morning Jacket frontman Yim Yames, Yo La Tengo, and others.  The second night will be more country based and will see Randy Travis, Yonder Mountain String Band, and others perform. The final evening will see The Boys sticking to their Gospel wheelhouse with a decidely New Orleans flare.

Tickets for all three shows are available now here. The full lineup for each night is listed after the jump.

Listen To The Jim James Valentine's Day Show

It's a shame Jim James doesn't hit the road solo more often because he really is just fantastic in that format.  Of course he's also amazing when he's rocking with lots of people.  He's kind of like Dirk Diggler in that way.  Anyhoo the awesome You Ain't No Picasso just put up audio from the My Morning Jacket frontman's Valenine's Day Louisville Is For Lovers show.  It's pretty great and you can stream the entire show over there, or you can download the entire show from bporter over at etree.  Rock.

I've included a couple of my favorite tunes from the evening that you can check out below.

Monsters Of Folk Are In The Right Place And Conan

Here is the first video from the Monsters of Folk for the song The Right Place, a day after the album's release and the band's debut performance on Conan, where the band played the single Say Please which noticeably had Mr Yim Yames on bass.

An Evening With Monsters Of Folk Is Coming To You

The Monsters of Folk have just announced a tour. Get ready for some serious awesome with Jim James, Conor Oberst, M. Ward, and Mike Mogis. The North American tour starts on Oct 13th in Vancouver and ends November 9th in Philadelphia. It is a pretty extensive tour for such a quick jaunt. Of obvious interest is the Louisville Halloween show in the hometown of My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James, or as he's liking to be called sans Jacket, Yim Yames. On the "An Evening With Monsters Of Folk" tour, the band will be donating $1 for every ticket sold to a local charity. Nice work fellas.

Jim James To Deliver "Tribute To" George Harrison

The My Morning Jacket crew has been on a little break, nevertheless Mr Jim James is still keeping himself busy. Along with the recently announced Monsters Of Folk debut, James will be releasing a tribute EP to the late great George Harrison.

For his first official solo outing, James will debut a George Harrison tribute EP entitled "Tribute To" under the name "Yim Yames" on August 4. The six song set is due on ATO and was recorded a few days after Harrison passed away in 2001. James takes on four of Harrison's tracks from "All Things Must Pass" and two tunes that he penned with the Beatles: "Long, Long, Long" and "Love You To."

The set is said to evoke a "raw, minimalist feel" with James utilizing just his voice and an acoustic guitar. James refers to Harrison as "a prime example of the healing power of music" in the liner notes.

Obviously this should quickly vault up any best of lists as well as dominate my aural senses for the immediate future. Definitely an album I can't wait to pick up. The tracklist for the EP is as follows, admittedly I will be skipping to track 4 for my first playback.

1. Long, Long, Long
2. Behind That Locked Door
3. Love You To
4. My Sweet Lord
5. Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)
6. All Things Must Pass

*Update*: Here's Behind That Locked Door available from free download from www.yimyames.com.

**Awesomer Update: The Yim Yames website claims "full length solo record coming soon". Hooray!
