John Mayer Who Says Video

See video

Here is the video for Who Says, the first single off of John Mayer's new album Battle Studies.  Directed by Anthony Mandler, the video essentially shows you how incredibly awesome it is to be John Mayer and just walk around rocking all the time with hot chicks everywhere.  It makes me wonder why I haven't done that yet, I'd be really good at it.  Well except for the walking part, I get tired pretty easily.

Battle Studies is set to be released November 17th and to mark the occasion cable channel Fuse will be airing "John Mayer Live From The Beacon Theatre" in HD as they did with the Dave Matthews Band to mark the release of Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.  This will be Mayer's fourth studio album, and he is clearly taking it seriously.

Co-produced by Mayer and Jordan, "Battle Studies" is described by the artist as a "confessional, relaxed and liberated album" that incorporates "the warmth, melodies and simplicity of '70s and '80s California rock/pop," according to a press release.

"I approach music like a director doing a period piece," Mayer said. "Where 'Continuum' was R&B and Soul, 'Battle Studies' was written with the timelessness of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young in mind. The melodies and message are concise and from-the-gut with the efficiency of simplicity."

Mayer plans to hit the road early next year for a North American tour behind "Battle Studies." via

Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, and Neil Young?  Where's the Beach Boys nod Mr Mayer?  Either way I'm optimistic for the laid back approach, after all, my favorite radio station/show of all time is definitely Lovesongs On The Coast.

Thanks to SHA user Dob for the heads up

John Mayer to Wear Suit, Become TV Host

CBS is planning a variety show to be hosted by John Mayer. Things like this have been rumored for quite some time, especially when he did the exact thing a couple of times on vh1 or whatever, but the "always reputable TMZ" is claiming it will be soon.

We've learned Mayer will host a weekly variety show for CBS. And here's the deal. We know CBS would like to run the show as soon as possible -- the goal is the first quarter of 2009.

It will be a music, variety and sketch show in the '60s mold. Ken Ehrlich (who produces the Emmys and Grammys) will produce the show with Mayer.

Mayer has become a pretty polarizing figure in the last few years. People are usually either really big fans or really big loathers. I fall in the big fans category, and will be tuning in. What about you?

Thanks to Nick for the tip, along with the Phillies flag hanging out his window.
