Outside Lands 2011 Lineup Features Phish, Arcade Fire, Muse

The lineup for this year's Outside Lands festival is here! Celebrate good times come on, although that should not suggest Kool & the Gang made the cut, granted they certainly should have. Helping the festival move back to the proper three day variety is a solid core of headliners featuring the greatest rock band on the planet Phish, already confirmed to be playing two sets on Friday night, Muse who are rumored to be holding down Saturday night's headlining festivities, and the third night theoretically being split between almost-headliners-but-not-really Arcade Fire and The Black Keys. A solid start if I don't say so myself, granted I just did, but that's why you're here, right? Literal wordplay? Oh, the lineup. Yeah, let's get to that.

Joining in on the fun in Golden Gate Park August 12-14 will be a lot of people who have never been in my kitchen, more specifically Deadmau5, Girl Talk, Big Boi, Erykah Badu, Beirut, Big Audio Dynamite, as well as Bay Area legend/fake southerner John Fogerty. Of course there are some SHA favorites mixed in there as well such as MGMT, Lotus, Mavis Staples, The Decemberists, The Meters, The Roots, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Joy Formidable, The Stone Foxes and four more bands that start with "The". What can we say, we love the article-noun naming convention.

Other notable acts include Arctic Monkeys, Sound Tribe Sector 9, The Warren Haynes Band (who I'm hoping don't play until Sunday so as to guarantee no Warren sit-in mid-Phish), Toro Y Moi and many more. Tickets go on sale starting this Thursday April 14th and there are varying pricing scales so the early birds get the proverbial worm here with savings! Straight cash homey.

Dave Matthews Band Announce Atlantic City Festival Details

Well that makes one. After announcing that their hiatus would actually feature four multi-day mini festivals, the Dave Matthews Band have come out with the details for the first of their Caravan events. Scheduled to take place June 24-26 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, the three day event will feature headlining sets by DMB each night as well as special performances by Carter Beauford and Stefan Lessard, not to mention an acoustic Dave and Tim set. But that's not all you see, this isn't just a DMB show.

Joining in on the fun are some reasonably big names mixed in with some fun ones. To keep up the SHA mystique we will refrain from labeling the acts as such but here they go: The Flaming Lips, Ray Lamontagne, David Gray, Amos Lee, Dr. Dog, Thievery Corporation, Bassnectar, Delta Spirit, Lotus, Damian Marley and much more (complete lineup listed below). Tickets for the event will be available to Warehouse members starting March 14th while the public on sale will take place March 25th. For more details and to purchase tickets head on over to the official DMB Caravan site.

It's worth noting to anyone attending this festival that even though Delta Spirit is listed in small font, you absolutely positively should not miss their set. Just saying.

My Morning Jacket To Headline Wakarusa & Mountain Jam, Lineups Announced

Doubling up on the festival updates here as they both have the awesome common denominator of My Morning Jacket as headliners, which makes it seem like the fellas may be this year's festival whores as the big guns haven't even come out with their lineups yet. Adding to the awesome it's safe to assume that the album Jim James is co-producing with Tucker Martine should hit stores near the May estimate. Either way expect a lot of MMJ in your future.

As for the festivals let's start with Wakarusa, which will return to Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas with or without dead birds falling from the sky. Set to take place June 2-5, the 8th edition of the festival will see the likes of Ben Harper and Relentless 7, Thievery Corporation, Sound Tribe Sector Nine, Umphrey's McGee, Mumford & Sons, Lotus and more.

As for Mountain Jam, which is essentially the Warren Haynes music festival, Michael Franti & Spearhead will join Lotus, The New Deal and MMJ on double dip duty, appearing at both Wakarusa and Mountain Jam. Haynes will be playing with both Gov't Mule as well as The Warren Haynes Band, not to mention the various sit ins he tends to take part in. Who might those sit ins be with? Possibly The Avett Brothers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, North Mississippi All Stars, or the most likely choice 7 Walkers. The official lineup announcement video is below.

Tickets are on sale now at both the Wakarusa and Mountain Jam sites. Complete lineups available after the jump.

High Sierra Lineup Additions, There's An Act For That

The High Sierra Music Festival announced their initial lineup shortly after the much publicized iPad announcement.  You may remember the clever little iPad parody video they used for that announcement.  Well it seems like the people with High Sierra are really getting a kick out of it because they essentially used the same bit for their first batch of lineup additions.  There's an act for that!

The latest additions were teased last Friday with a youtube clip of Willie Nelson and Ray Charles doing Georgia On My Mind.  Fitting then that Widespread Panic and The Black Crowes lead the list of additions.

Widespread Panic
The Black Crowes
Lotus
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
The Mother Hips
Jerry Joseph & The Jackmormons
The Radiators
The Pimps of Joytime
Truth & Salvage Co.
Coryell, Auger, Sample Trio
New Fangled Wasteland
Orgone
Chris Chandler & Paul Benoit
Living Folklore

These bands will be joining Super Hella Awesome favorites The Avett Brothers, Dr. Dog, The Slip, Surprise Me Mr Davis and many more.  For the complete lineup visit the official site.

Nateva Festival Announces Headliners, Some More Acts

The lineup for the inaugural Naveta Festival is slowly starting to take shape.  The festival  announced The Flaming Lips as a headliner as soon as the festival's existence was announced, but now we have some other headliners, as well as a better understanding of the theme.

The Nateva Music & Camping Festival is a 3-day, multi stage outdoor camping event to be held July 2nd, 3rd & 4th at the beautiful 100 acre Oxford Fairgrounds – 2 hours and 25 minutes from Boston and 45 minutes from Portland, Maine. As New England’s premier Jam based music festival, we look forward to bringing you world class artists in the true Jam Band tradition – as well as a sweet mix of Country, Folk, Reggae, Classic Rock and Indie Artists too.

Their headliners certainly drive home the jam band emphasis.  While the previously announced headliner The Flaming Lips will hold down the Saturday spot, the rest of the nights have a nice mix of the entire jam band spectrum.  Furthur has been announced as the headliner for the 4th of July, while moe. will handle the Friday evening duties.  Even though the website information consistently state the dates as July 2-4 they have announced the up and comping Lotus as the Thursday headliner for "those weekend campers that wish to come early".  No word yet on if there will be other bands playing on Thursday.

Other additions to the lineup include The Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Zappa Plays Zappa, Keller Williams, and Moonalice.  We'll update you with lineup additions as they come.  Tickets are on sale now through the Nateva Festival website.

All Good 2010 Lineup Is Here!

Looks like it's festival lineup announcement day.  Now we have this year's initial lineup for the All Good festival set to return to Martha's Mountaintop in Masontown, West Virginia July 8-11.  Those fans who weren't finding enough jam in the Bonnaroo lineup will be hard pressed to complain about this initial list as it features Widespread Panic, Furthur, Umphrey's McGee, Lotus, and many more.

Head on over to the official All Good site for ticketing info and more details.  We'll update you with the artist additions as they come.

Lotus: Hammerstrike

Release Date:
Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Lotus has been a band I have been trying to catch for a long time now, but they don't exactly frequent the left side of the country. One thing that will change that is a new album and subsequent tour. Before I check out their show on Oct 16 I thought I would check out some of their material, let's jump right into their new album Hammerstrike

1. Behind Midwest Storefronts - Nice subtle opener, very spacey. Not what I was expecting for a band that has been given the ominous Jamtronica label. More of this and we are going to be a good team.
2. Age of Inexperience - Aside from the great song title, this is actually quite radio friendly. I wasn't expecting much of that on this album. Nice groove, more indie rock sounding than anything else. Fun guitar on this track. I'm guessing the second half of this track is similar to what you can expect at most of their shows, as of now that is not a complaint.
