Muppets Covering Llama By Phish

Here is an incredibly awesome version of some Muppets doing some Phish.  I knew Trey's mom used to work for Sesame Street but I was unaware of this Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem cover until Worcester2003 pointed it out on Phantasy Tour last night.  Suffice to say it may be one of the best things the internet has ever made, congratulations internet.

Classic Trey Band With Horns Tour Dates!

As the Phish gang relaxes after a busy 2009, and possibly searches for a new drummer, frontman Trey Anastasio will be hitting the road with the "Classic" formation of his band.  And he is bringing the horns, rocktacular.

Trey hits the road in February for a month-long tour with Classic TAB, featuring the same lineup from last fall, with the addition of horns back into the mix. Russell Remington (tenor saxophone and flute) and Jen Hartswick (trumpet and vocals) once again join Russ Lawton (drums), Tony Markellis (bass) and Ray Paczkowski (keyboards). New to the group is Natalie Cressman on trombone and vocals.

A limited number of tickets for all shows will be available through a real-time ticket presale directly through Trey's online ticketing system at http://treytickets.rlc.net. The presale begins tomorrow, January 6th at 10am ET and will end Thursday, January 14th at 5:00pm ET. Tickets will go on sale to the public beginning Thursday, January 14th at 10:00am ET. For complete ticketing information, please visit the Tour page.

Hidden Track has a nice little writeup on all the members, including the fact that Natalie Cressman is just 18 years old.  18 and on Trey tour, playing on it, amazing.  The tour opener in Charlottesville will be a benefit for the Kristine Anastasio Manning Memorial Fund on what would have been her 47th birthday.

Gone was a debut, and Dixie Cannonball was a Phish debut. Back on the Train featured an extended jam including hints of Limb by Limb. During Love You, Fishman mentioned Trey's announcement the previous night that it was Fishman's last vacuum solo "of the aughts," so he announced that he needed "someone dressed like me" to do it, brought audience member Rich onstage to do the solo, then gave him the vac! Frankenstein included Page on keytar. Corrina was last played February 24, 2003 (100 shows ago) and Tela was last played November 24, 1998 (235 shows ago). 2009 has now had more unique songs (242) than any other year in Phish's history, beating out 1998 by 2... so far!  [via]

Phish Is Going To Miami For New Years, Four Nights

While it was initially "officially announced" via their Festival 8 Halloween playbill through an ad for David Bowie featuring UB40, Phish today really put the official on their new years plans.  The band will play four shows running from starting December 28th through New Year's Eve at the American Airlines Arena in Miami.  The request period for these shows is now underway and comes to an end Nov 15th at 11:59 EST.  The general onsale takes place Nov 21 at 10am EST.

Feeling lucky?  Head on over to Phish Tickets and enter the lottery.

Danny Boyle Signs Up For 127 Hours

Danny Boyle really exploded on to the scene after the massive success of Slumdog Millionaire, but he certainly has more than one strong movie on his resume.  What the critical and commercial success of Slumdog did allow is for Boyle to take a few more chances and still have faith that the backing would be there.    Luckily for us viewers, it sounds like he feels like taking some of those chances.

For Boyle's next film he will take on the story of mountain climber, and Phish fan, Aron Ralston who was forced to amputate his own arm after being trapped under a boulder.  Variety reports, with some more specific info

Fox Searchlight and Danny Boyle have firmed plans to make their next collaboration “127 Hours,” a film that tells the story of mountaineer Aron Ralston.

After his right forearm got pinned for nearly five days under a boulder during a climb in Utah in May, 2003, Ralston used a dull knife to amputate the limb. He then scaled a 65-foot sheer wall and hiked out before running into a family that gave him water and food. He was finally rescued by helicopter.

Boyle will direct the film, with production to begin next year for a late 2010 release. Pic is financed and distributed by Searchlight in partnership with Pathe. via

Based on an interview Boyle did with Indiewire, /Film gives a little more insight into Boyle's plans for the film.

But the big news tidbit to come out of the conversation is how he plans to shoot the film. Boyle intends to film the first hour of the movie with no dialogue. In the true life story, Ralston was completely alone, stuck in the canyon. And Boyle will not be introducing any volleyball tricks a la Tom Hanks in Castaway. The film will have to rely on the non-dialogue acting strength of whatever late-20’s/early-30-year-old actor who gets cast in the role.  via

For anyone that followed Ralston's story when it broke, it truly is riveting.  It will be fascinating to see how this really plays out and if Boyle really sticks to his first hour of no dialogue thought.  It might get a little too artsy for the regulars but it could build some fascinating tension and obviously fits the story amazingly well.  What I am more interested in is seeing who gets this free shot at an Oscar nod role.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Bittersweet Motel

I have finally rebounded from the "killing" of Pet Sounds (RIP 10/11), even though there is still a large part of my soul that feels like it has been sodomized by a unicorn. What I guess that means is that I can now return to extremely giddy excited world.  With only two weeks til the awesome bonanza that will be Festival 8, it's only natural to have some Phish and FestivaI inspired material over the next fourteen days.  That being said let's get all Friday's Foreign Covers'd.

This is one of those really awesome ones that is not really funny. Youtube user dannerokker77 has a bunch of phish covers up, some sweded, some of the standard variety.  Mostly all awesome.
