The Flaming Lips

Nateva Festival Announces Headliners, Some More Acts

The lineup for the inaugural Naveta Festival is slowly starting to take shape.  The festival  announced The Flaming Lips as a headliner as soon as the festival's existence was announced, but now we have some other headliners, as well as a better understanding of the theme.

The Nateva Music & Camping Festival is a 3-day, multi stage outdoor camping event to be held July 2nd, 3rd & 4th at the beautiful 100 acre Oxford Fairgrounds – 2 hours and 25 minutes from Boston and 45 minutes from Portland, Maine. As New England’s premier Jam based music festival, we look forward to bringing you world class artists in the true Jam Band tradition – as well as a sweet mix of Country, Folk, Reggae, Classic Rock and Indie Artists too.

Their headliners certainly drive home the jam band emphasis.  While the previously announced headliner The Flaming Lips will hold down the Saturday spot, the rest of the nights have a nice mix of the entire jam band spectrum.  Furthur has been announced as the headliner for the 4th of July, while moe. will handle the Friday evening duties.  Even though the website information consistently state the dates as July 2-4 they have announced the up and comping Lotus as the Thursday headliner for "those weekend campers that wish to come early".  No word yet on if there will be other bands playing on Thursday.

Other additions to the lineup include The Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Zappa Plays Zappa, Keller Williams, and Moonalice.  We'll update you with lineup additions as they come.  Tickets are on sale now through the Nateva Festival website.

The Hangout Beach Festival Lineup Is Here!

Music on the beach is one of the many under utilized tools in our insanely over-saturated society, luckily The Hangout Beach Music and Arts Festival is trying to take care of that.  Set to take place from May 14-16, the inaugural event will take place directly on the white beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama".  There are expected to be more than 60 artists taking part with four stages including "two main stages rising from the sand itself."

Tickets for the 3 day festival are $159 and are available now over at the official site.  The initial lineup is below and features my favorite Chuck Norris lookalike.  Awesome.

UPDATE:  Apparently our info was wrong, somehow Bassnectar snuck in there and is not confirmed for the festival at this time.  Apologies.  Still sounds awesome though right?

Flaming Lips Secret Show, Store In LA

I like this new open up a merch store and play a small show trend that is popping up.  Jack White and crew took it coast to coast, and now The Flaming Lips are getting in on the fun in Los Angeles this Thursday.  Two days after the release of their new album Embryonic, Wayne Coyne and company will set up shop, literally, at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre.  And yes, that Ricardo Montalban.  At least that is what I'm assuming.

Not only will fan have the opportunity to get their hands on unique artifacts available on this day and location only but the THE FLAMING LIPS have planned a very special, intimate MYSPACE SECRET SHOW performance just for tickets winners at this small venue guaranteed to blow the minds of the lucky few well beyond the third bardo. This might be the only opportunity to see the band in full-blown, maximum hysteria in a minimal space ever again. Get your furry freak on for this one time only psychedelic Hollywood happening. You won’t get the change to see the LIPS live again until 2010!

Tickets for the event will be made available on a first come, first served basis at the opening on October15. Additional tickets will be available at Amoeba records with purchase of the Lips CD on street date, October 13. KCRW 89.9 FM and the LA Weekly will also participate in ticket give-a-ways so play close attention.

The stores hours are noon to midnight.  For all the complete information on the store and event head over to the band's official blog.  The band will also appear on The Tonight Show WIth Conan O'Brien tomorrow, October 13th, the official street date of Embryonic

The Flaming Lips Can Be A Frog

The Flaming Lips have been rolling out the press wagon for their upcoming album Embryonic , which hits stores October 13th.  Here is the video for I Can Be A Frog which features Yeah Yeah Yeah's frontwoman Karen O on "noises".

The band also announced their New Year's plans, which will happen in Oklahoma City at the Cox Arena.  Tickets are on sale now over at Ticketmaster.

Treasure Island Music Festival Lineup Is Here!

The third installment of San Francisco's Treasure Island Music Festival is set for October 17-18 featuring acts like The Flaming Lips, MGMT, The Decemberists, MSTRKRFT, Grizzly Bear and more. I'm yet to attend but everyone seems to be pretty pleased with the previous installments. Should make for quite an October as I would assume Bridge School dates should fall the next weekend, Oct 24-25, which would then be followed by a massive Saturday night Halloween mania the next weekend, presumably with Umphrey's McGee again dominating the Warfield. San Francisco certainly can be pretty cool sometimes.
