Umphrey's McGee Announce Fall Dates, Halloween Mashup In St. Louis

Deliverers of awesome Umphrey's McGee have just announced their Halloween plans as well as a batch of early fall tour dates. There's a lot to get excited about so let's use the glorious copy and paste from the band's news update:

Umphrey’s McGee is proud to announce the 3rd Annual Monster Mash Up Halloween extravaganza October 30th and 31st at The Pageant in St. Louis, Missouri. Stay tuned for details on CID Entertainment travel packages, “Partyin’ Peeps” enhanced concert ticket packages, and more.

In true Umphrey’s Halloween tradition, we will be mixing and mashing up new combinations of tunes, and encourage all to get in the spirit of the mash up theme by dressing the part.

The Monster Mash Up shows are always a good time so it's nice to know the band seems to have officially embraced it as their Halloween gimmick. Considering Umphrey's past adventures with technology and fans, I'm pretty interested in the "'Partyin Peeps' enhanced concert ticket packages". We'll update you with that news when it comes.

The early fall dates the band announced will take them from Tennesee out west. Presale for those shows will begin on July 20th, with general onsales taking place on the 24th. Halloween ticketing will follow a week later with a July 27th presale and a general onsale on the 30th. For more information head on over to the official site.

Umphrey's McGee Announce Summer Tour, 30DB Tour Starts Thursday

Fresh on the heels of the uber awesomeness that was UMBowl, the Umphrey's McGee crew have annouced a hefty summer tour that sees the band playing multiple festivals as well as special shows with Galactic, moe., Tea Leaf Green, and Widespread Panic. Of course the lion's share of the tour are headlining dates, my favorite kind of Umphrey's. Rebelution will be along for support on most of those dates.

Presale tickets for the newly announced shows will go on sale through Umphrey's ticketing starting tomorrow May 5th at 12pm CST. General onsales will begin this weekend.

In other Umphrey's related news the band just spent some time at guitarist Jake Cinninger's Boon Dock Studios beginning work on some new music, even suggesting that there will be some new studio material released in 2010 one way or another. You can check out some sweet pictures from the session over at The Floor. Apparently Jake is also a foodie, as he recently sat down for an interview with Epicurean Musician that you can read here.

That's not all. Next week will see the release of One Man Show, the first record from Brendan Bayliss' side project 30db with Jeff Austin of Yonder Mountain String Band. As groups are inclined to do with the release of a new album, 30db will indeed be hitting the road starting this Thursday in Minneapolis. One Man Show will be released on May 11th, you can check out more about 30db over at their official website.

Caribbean Holidaze Is Now Mayan Holidaze, Bringing STS9 Along

I know I'm supposed to be super pumped about this news as I touted Caribbean Holidaze as the greatest festival in the world, but forgive me if I fart on the cereal.  The newest incarnation of the festival has changed the name to something stupider and even kept the holidaze part which is a shame as they are clinging on to MLK day to have the same signifigance as the more famous winter ones that were originally featured.  Then they decided noone really cares about the NFL playoffs so they'll just have the festival then.  On top of that the location has been changed to my least favorite country in the world.  And they added STS9 so Umphrey's fans can be even bigger outsiders.

These are the facts, there will be no Holidaze in 2010.  STS9 will join The Disco Biscuits and Umphrey's McGee for the first ever Mayan Holidaze that will take place January 20-24 on the Mayan Riviera in Mexico.  Complete details will be announced May 5th like where you can get your crystals and flat brim hats.  All inclusive rooms go on sale May 12th.

Temporary bitterness aside this will still be an incredibly awesome time that I strongly recommend everyone partake in, I'm just feeling incredibly bummed by the changes.  If the Lakers win tonight and the Vikings take Jimmy Clausen today will officially be the worst day ever.  Or at least since Tabby Wormser made fun of my Cross Color jeans in junior high.

Head on over to the official site for some awesome shots of the location and to stay updated on the shenanigans.

Gathering Of The Vibes 2010 Lineup Is Here!

Here is the announcement video for the 15th annual Gathering Of The Vibes festival.  Set to take place July 29th - August 1st, the festival will once again return to Bridgeport, CT.  Aside from being one of my favorite of the "announcement videos" so far, this year's Gathering Of The Vibes will feature the return of Primus, Umphrey's McGee, Rhythym Devils featuring Keller Williams, Galactic, Robert Randolph & the Family Band and many more.

Way advance tickets are on sale right now over at the official site.

Jeff Austin And Brendan Bayliss' 30db Announce Album, Tour

When we last checked in with the supergroup of sorts 30db, there were really no details about anything.  The only awesome that really existed was a nice streaming studio tune called One Man Show.  Now we have some good info, and it reeks of awesome.

First comes first, the track we previewed was indeed the title track as the album will officially be called One Man Show.  Currently the record is scheduled for a May 11th release and will be supported by some actual tour dates, as opposed to the one-offs they are used to like tonight's show at Schuba's, or next week's appearance at Jam In The Dam.

While all of their public appearances until now have only featured Austin and Bayliss, the album and subsequent tour is going to be a little more crowded ........ with awesome.  Let's get some history from the official bio

Hailing from Chicago, longtime friends, musical collaborators, and all-around conspirators Jeff Austin (of Yonder Mountain String Band) and Brendan Bayliss (of Umphrey's McGee) have been writing music and playing together for years. In between their busy tour schedules with Yonder and Umphrey's, the two musicians had always wanted to start a band. They wrote some songs, played some shows (both on Jeff's turf in Colorado and back home in Chicago) and so 30db was born.

After accruing a mass quantity of music, they decided it was about time to make a record. They recruited an amazing crew of musicians to join them in Boulder for some recording sessions, and that's when 30db really took its shape and became a band. Holding down the sound on drums is the Memphis-based North Mississippi Allstars drummer and co-founder, Cody Dickinson. E-Town host and legendary guitar player from Hot Rize, Nick Forster, plays electric guitar, and Boulder-based Eric Thorin keeps it tight on the bass. The final product is a collection of heartfelt tunes, filled with fun yet ironic lyric undertones and solid playing from start to finish.

Yes please and thank you.  We even have some cover art.  Rock.

Tour dates for the band's newly announced mini-tour are below with presales beginning March 22nd at 1PM local time.  Head on over to the official 30db site for all the mania you can handle.

Also, add an LA date.  Thanks.

30db Tour Dates
May 6 | Cabooze, Minneapolis, Minnesota
May 7 | Barrymore Theater, Madison, Wisconsin
May 8 | Lincoln Hall, Chicago, Illinois
May 19 | Fox Theatre, Boulder, Colorado
May 20 | Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, California (*on sale Sun 03.21)
May 21 | Tractor Tavern, Seattle, Washington
May 22 | Berbati's Pan Portland, Oregon

** The first 20 ticket purchasers in the pre-sale will receive a backstage meet and greet with the band!

Umphrey's McGee Visit Street Date Studios

Here is the video from Umphrey's McGee's recent visit to Street Date studios to perform two tracks off of Mantis for a small studio audience. The band chose the rocking 1348 to start things off and then the poppier side of Umphrey's gets displayed with Made To Measure.  I'm certainly not going to make the case that this is the best recorded Umphrey's McGee you can hear out there, but it is a good quality video recording and new and by god it's St. Patrick's Day.

You can also check out the "Day In The Life" video the band made from their visit to NYC that day that features some Reelin In The Years as well as the band prepping their cover of Lisztomania by Phoenix.  Rock.

There will be more additions as we get closer to the festival and we'll keep you updated.  Tickets and other details are still available at Bonnaroo.com
