Awesome Music

Music Video Of The Day: Caveman Blues

It's been a while since we went to the well of awesome known as Everything Is Terrible, but that has nothing to do with the quality of their recent work as the "Caveman Blues" will show you. Aside from the top notch production value and molesting of Johnny B. Goode, you also get some pretty killer vocals and conceivably a bit of real life historical context. To verify the accuracy I contacted one of my good friends who just so happens to be a caveman as well as a lawyer but sadly not the unfrozen type. He swears that bears would often rudely begin to inhabit caves with no respect to previous occupancy. So there you have it, a music video with a history lesson, much like the Backstreet Boys entire catalog.

Also I want to rock rock rock in my home in the rock.

Ryan Adams Reveals New Arcade Game Website, Details New Albums

Happy times are certainly near again as one of the world's greatest songwriters (hyperbole party not really!) is inching closer to releasing some more music. Ryan Adams has a history of possibly releasing a lot of stuff that never gets released, but this is looking pretty darn believable considering he fancied up his record label Pax Am's website with what looks to be an incredibly awesome arcade game of Ryan Adams info. So as not to confuse any players of said arcade game a very clear note welcomes you.

My Name is Bongo the Snowman – I’ll be updating you on new releases and news related the PAX•AM roster – with bands such as Ryan Adams, Ryan Adams & The Cardinals and more electic tastes such as Ryan Adams. I live on an invisible mountain in the sky. Good Morning.

Well then, that just about covers our awesome for the morning. Go play around like bonkers, there are tunes and stuff there too.

No release dates have been given for the new double album Cardinals III/IV, but you do get to see the album art, which looks awesome, as well as an official tracklist. We'll keep you updated with some release dates and eventual tour info when we get it. Hooray!

Cee-Lo Green Leaves Out Cursing For Letterman, Streams The Lady Killer

Cee-Lo brought a bunch of ladies and a whole lotta red to Letterman last night where he did his best to get through "F*ck You" without using one of the two words in the title. I much prefer this to the generic radio version with the "Forget You" as you actually realize something is missing, which is annoying but realistic. I find it interesting that the title word in question is all that received an edit but I guess we are all better people for it.

Of course by now you should know anything Mr Green touches turns to smooth smooth soul, so there is undoubtedly quite a few of you out there who are very excited for the release of his new album The Lady Killer today. Clearly you should do the purchasing bit and all that, but if you need a preview NPR is still hosting their exclusive first listen of the album which I have posted below. Enjoy the awesome.    [via the audio perv]

For our first bit of evidence I offer up the set's "Reba" below.

Stream Brian Eno's Latest Ambient Album Small Craft On A Milk Sea

Well this is certainly heavy in the awesome. The fine folks over at NPR are now streaming Brian Eno's latest album Small Craft On A Milk Sea up until it's November 2nd release. It's never really easy to describe an Eno album, so let's hear it straight from the man's mouth.

''The work in this collection is a result of an occasional collaboration between myself, Leo Abrahams and Jon Hopkins. The two of them are gifted young player/composers whose work, like mine, is intimately connected to the possibilities and freedoms of electronic music. Over the last few years we've worked together several times, enjoying exploring the huge new sonic territories now available to musicians. Mostly the pieces on this album resulted not from 'composition' in the classical sense, but from improvisation. The improvisations are not attempts to end up with a song, but rather with a landscape, a feeling of a place and perhaps the suggestion of an event. In a sense they deliberately lack 'personality': there is no singer, no narrator, no guide as to what you ought to be feeling. If these pieces had been used in films, the film would complete the picture. As they stand, they are the mirror-image of silent movies - sound-only movies.''

There's like six pretty awesome album titles in that description but I guess someone was craving some dairy. The NPR article goes a little bit more in depth to how Eno met guitarist Leo Abrahams with the latter claiming Eno "was happy I wasn't playing 'Stairway to Heaven' with the amp turned up to 11.  (So) he invited me to play on his album." Wait a minute, I thought playing Stairway at 11 was standard protocol for meeting musical luminaries. So not playing Stairway works? Here I am like a fool honing up on my Stairway intro, getting ready to make a trip to Guitar Center. I guess I better freshen up my Aqualung.

Music Video Of The Day: The National - Terrible Love (Alternate Version)

Here is the second video from hipster megastars The National's really great album High Violet. The Tom Berninger directed video is actually for the alternate version of "Terrible Love" and gives off a pretty strong stars-are-just-like-us vibe that would make US Weekly jealous. Not only do we see frontman Matt Berninger taking part in the common man's patented air hump, but we also see the entire group getting frisked by security. The National try on racoon hats, use escalators, get all existential on a banana and practice karate chops in the mirror just like us. As for their bowling careers? Thankfully there are sold out shows and critically acclaimed albums to fall back on.   [via pitchfork]

Mumford And Sons Bring The Cave & Roll Away Your Stone To Kimmel

While on a small break during their latest US tour, British folksters Mumford & Sons did the late night thing with a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live. A couple standard song choices from their awesome debut Sigh No More get the usual passionate rocking treatment and crazy eyes the band seems to enjoy so much. The first and featured performance of "The Cave" includs a nice mini horn section, while the ensuing end credits number is the rollicking stompfest "Roll Away Your Stone".   [via the audio perv]

Music Video Of The Day: Brad - Believe In Yourself

Here is the first official video from Brad's awesome new album Best Friends?. While obnoxiously titled as Brad featuring Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam, the Josh Taft directed video for "Believe In Yourself" really gets the whole Brad vibe across with its mood lighting and continuous motion, albeit at a chilled pace. More than any of the new tunes on the album, "Believe In Yourself" epitomizes the Shawn Smith worldview, a helpless dreamer looking for a sense of comfort and security, followed by the realization that it all comes from within. Good stuff, if you believe in yourself.

Mike Gordon Announces The Mossery Otherwise Known As The Best Thing Ever

Not to take anything away from the amazing work the Umphrey's McGee team has been doing in regards to fan and band interaction, but this is probably the coolest band/fan thingy I've ever heard of. For those of you that like to make the music and happen to be fans of any (or all) of the work Mike Gordon has done, you might just want to go and get yourselves a clean pair of shorts as this next bit of news is pretty darn fantabulous. Let's copy and paste so as not to lose any awesome in translation.

You're invited to "The Mossery," a free-form musical event on the eve of the release of Mike Gordon's new studio album Moss. The event will take place at a fully transformed Kenny's Castaway on Monday, October 18th in New York City. There's no cost to get in and you can come, explore and leave as you please. Guests will have the chance to pick up Mike's new album, Moss, which hits stores on Tuesday.

Attendees will have the opportunity to play along, with Mike on bass. We supply the instruments and mikes and you show up. We can't guarantee that everyone will get to (it's first come, first served), but we'll rotate as many willing participants through as possible, because a rolling stone gathers no moss.

The first half of the event will start at 7:30pm and continue through 9:00pm, at which point we'll rotate out all folks, making room for the next flock of people. The second half of the event, with all new participants, will begin at 9:30pm and continue through 11:00pm.

So yeah, you can jam with Cactus. For serious and for free. Not to mention you get to pick up his new album Moss a day early. And you get to jam with Cactus. Did I mention Mike will be on bass and you can play with him. If I somehow manage to hit the lottery tonight I'm moving to New York by Monday. One important question remains though, will the supplied instruments include a keytar? Everyone knows I only play with things I can strap around my neck. That's what she said.

For more information on The Mossery and all around awesomeness head on over to Mike's killer website. Also if anyone actually makes it out to this event and wants to share their experience or pictures please let us know. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Ben Folds Brings A Rocking Saskia Hamilton To Fallon

Accompanied by author/lyricist/buddy Nick Hornby, the awesome that is Ben Folds made an appearance last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where they performed the single "Saskia Hamilton" off of the collaborations incredibly awesome new album Lonely Avenue. Definitely the most rocking of the new tunes, Folds and his band blast through the number before some serious noise making that features the keyword "baseball". Good times.

For those that are unaware, the piano jedi's got a pretty serious photography habit. Recently National Geographic posted some of his shots as part of their Music On Photography series, which you can check out over at their website. The picture above is probably my favorite of the ten included and they all come with a little description by the man himself for those that are interested.

"This is Tori Amos' daughter at about 6 years old. She was bumming because her mommy was going to have to go to work playing for her 5,000 or so closest friends and wouldn't be back for a couple of hours. She'd been the center of attention in her princess outfit for most of the day and wasn't ready to leave the stage, so she threw herself in despair onto a nasty road case. She was just fine about two minutes later!"
