The Black Keys And Vampire Weekend Have A Sell-Out Off For Colbert

On last night's The Colbert Report, Steven reminded everyone about his Grammy win from last year, and the subsequent affect it has had on his life. Most importantly, aside from a Black Eyed Pea hotline, Colbert has now earned the right to vote for this year's nominees like all other past winners. To do his Album of the Year vote as diplomatically as possible Colbert decided to bring on Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend and Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys for what Koenig aptly calls a "Sell-Out Off".

Also "Bring it on Cape Cod".  [via vulture]

Fantastic Iron & Wine Daytrotter Session Features Three New Tunes

I'll be pretty straightforward here, if you can't find something to enjoy in the brand new Iron & Wine Daytrotter session you may have no soul. It's not like that's necessarily a bad thing, think about all the things you can avoid with no soul. Presumably heaven and hell for one, not to mention skipping out on familial responsibilities and such. I once vowed never to do anyone a favor again for the rest of my life, which you could probably follow through on sans soul.

Adding to the awesome is the appearance of three of the songs from the upcoming album Kiss Each Other Clean which won't be released until January 25th. Check out the gorgeous opener set opener "Tree By The River" streaming below if you don't believe me. Once your faith is restored and you realize you are traveling through this mess with a soul in tow head on over to the Daytrotter site and download the rest of the set, just make sure you read Sean Moeller's fantastic write up while you are there. Oh music, thanks for making me feel better.

Awesome Update: Now with video of the opener thanks to the awesome Twenty Four Bit by way of Pop Candy. Great stuff.

My Morning Jacket To Headline Wakarusa & Mountain Jam, Lineups Announced

Doubling up on the festival updates here as they both have the awesome common denominator of My Morning Jacket as headliners, which makes it seem like the fellas may be this year's festival whores as the big guns haven't even come out with their lineups yet. Adding to the awesome it's safe to assume that the album Jim James is co-producing with Tucker Martine should hit stores near the May estimate. Either way expect a lot of MMJ in your future.

As for the festivals let's start with Wakarusa, which will return to Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas with or without dead birds falling from the sky. Set to take place June 2-5, the 8th edition of the festival will see the likes of Ben Harper and Relentless 7, Thievery Corporation, Sound Tribe Sector Nine, Umphrey's McGee, Mumford & Sons, Lotus and more.

As for Mountain Jam, which is essentially the Warren Haynes music festival, Michael Franti & Spearhead will join Lotus, The New Deal and MMJ on double dip duty, appearing at both Wakarusa and Mountain Jam. Haynes will be playing with both Gov't Mule as well as The Warren Haynes Band, not to mention the various sit ins he tends to take part in. Who might those sit ins be with? Possibly The Avett Brothers, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, North Mississippi All Stars, or the most likely choice 7 Walkers. The official lineup announcement video is below.

Tickets are on sale now at both the Wakarusa and Mountain Jam sites. Complete lineups available after the jump.

Watch Middle Brother Rock Me, Me, Me At The Invisible Children Benefit

Awesome alert. For us here at SHA headquarters the most exciting release that has been announced for 2011 so far is the self-titled debut of Middle Brother, the band formerly known as MG&V featuring the frontmen of the various awesome bands Delta Spirit, Deer Tick and Dawes. A while back the band played their first official gig as Middle Brother as part of a benefit for Invisible Children, and now thanks to Friends With Both Arms we have some video of the occasion, more specifically a rollicking version of the first single "Me, Me, Me".

If their twitter account is to believed a tour announcement will come tomorrow, but in the meantime you can preview all the tracks from the album at the Partisan Records store. Spoiler alert: it sounds fantastic. If you want to check out the studio version after falling in love with the video above, it is streaming below. Rock.

Okkervil River Bring A New Song And Album To Fallon

This is a fun one, and a good idea. Last night Okkervil River appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon where they revealed the release date and title of their upcoming album. It's a great marketing point if it is indeed one and certainly fun for the fans. That being said playing a new song is still the most exciting part, especially since Will Shelf and company were joined by ?uestlove and A.C. Newman for "Wake and Be Fine" from the not very far away I Am Very Far which will be released on May 10th.  [via consequence of sound]

Watch The Full Monsters Of Folk Austin City Limits Episode

We may be on the verge of a new Bright Eyes album, but that doesn't mean shows filmed a few months ago that are just now airing have forgotten about that other little thing Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis did with friends M. Ward and Yim Yames, the Monsters of Folk. It's no secret how much we love the Yim Yames around these parts so we didn't forget that the supergroup's Austin City Limits episode finally aired over the weekend, but if you did we've got it streaming here for you. The twelve song set takes up a wonderful hour of your time so get comfy.  [via twentyfourbit]

Awesome Auction: John Lennon's First Car, A Ferrari For Smurfs

Yep, that car you are looking at is the first car John Lennon ever owned. It also happens to be a Ferrari and even more awesomely is going to be auctioned off to someone that is Danza rich, which unfortunately rules out the SHA team. If one of you fancy little readers out there in Awesomeville are feeling charitable I am both a big fan of The Beatles as well as Ferraris, not to mention extremely willing to accept handouts. The 330 GT 2+2 Coupe is only expected to go for a couple hundred thousand so it's not like it would be breaking the bank or anything.

As for the backstory apparently when Lennon first passed his driver's test a bunch of car dealers came to his house to try and convince him to take one of their finest, the Smurf colored Ferrari caught the legendary musician's eye. The auction will occur on February 5th so you better get all your change over to Coinstar pretty soon.  [via the telegraph]

Watch Marco Benevento Play Atari & Two Of You For A Sleepover Show

This is certainly a good way to start the week. While it may be our first time referencing the awesome Sleepover Shows site here on our little corner of the interwebs, it most certainly will not be our last, especially if they keep up with the high quality guests. Of course at the tippy top of the high quality guest pyramid is SHA favorite Marco Benevento and his wonderful world of amazing piano playing and gadget wizardry.

For this Sleepover Show the fellas caught up with Marco before his trio did their original score for Fall of the House of Usher at MASS MoCA. Unfortunately none of that show is covered, and there are no Pink Floyd or Elton John covers, but they did manage to get Marco to perform a couple solo tunes, "Atari" from Invisible Baby, as well as "Two of You" from his most recent release Between the Needles and Nightfall. In the least surprising bit of news of all time, both performances are awesome. Enjoy.

Stream The Decemberists' New Album The King Is Dead

Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to listen to The Decemberists new album The King Is Dead yet, but it's streaming over at NPR and it's fair to gamble on the quality based on past performance. Colin Meloy and the rest of his bandmates are joined by Gillian Welch and R.E.M's Peter Buck on the new album which is set for a January 18th release, with subsequent worldwide tour to follow. We'll have lots more coverage on the new album once the band hits the publicity circuit, not to mention we finally get a good listen, so for now just enjoy the goods.

Music Video Of The Day: Ida Maria - Quite Nice People

Just stumbled across this doozy on the old Twitter, hooray internet. Here we have the official video for singer songwriter Ida Maria's "Quite Nice People", a melancholy look at strangers that comes across as part Cat Power part She & Him, doused in awesomesauce. Unfortunately I don't have too much information on Ida aside from the fact that she's Norwegian, has a really great voice and makes music with it. Enough for a crush but not much more than that, head on over to her myspace to check out more of the goodness.

Also any video featuring a Suicidal Tendencies t-shirt gets coverage.
