Awesome Streams

Stream Fiona Apple's New Typically Awesome Long-Titled Album

Posts have admittedly been few and far between lately but I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't pass along the greatness of Fiona Apple's first album in seven years streaming online. She's the best. I can't talk much now because I'm just about to listen to it a hundred times in a row.

As per usual you can thank the fine folks over at NPR for the stream. Then buy The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw, And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do when it comes out June 19th. Then go see Fiona on tour. Then pray for a shorter wait for the next album.

Stream The (Amazing) New Ryan Adams Album Ashes And Fire

I'm pretty much a blubbering mess right now and that is not a fat joke thank you very much. Thanks to the wonderful people over at NPR we can all now stream the great Ryan Adams brand new album Ashes And Fire. While the album won't officially hit shelves until October 11th, the preview should allow for plentiful listens of the legal variety ahead of the street date at which time we should all buy multiple copies of the new album to make the greatest living songwriter not named Brian Wilson feel loved. A segue of sorts to the theme of the new album, but I'll let you decide. Listen away, it's great.

Those not partaking in the super sold out west coast shows following the album's release will also be happy to learn Adams has announced a new set of US dates starting on December 2nd in Philadelphia. As has been the case with his latest outings these shows will feature Ryan solo, otherwise known as a show you can't miss. Dates and stream below. Happy days.

Stream Eddie Vedder's Ukulele Songs

Looks like it is party time island style as NPR just added to an already strong week of Exclusive First Listens with the newest solo effort from Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, the very literally titled Ukulele Songs. We've already heard some live versions, seen an official video, and even the underwater themed album art, so now is the time to just dig in to the sixteen song set featuring guest turns from Cat Power and Glen Hasnard. As anyone that has paid attention to Eddie's solo career the last few years can attest to, don't expect much rocking. What you can expect is Eddie dominating the ukulele love song field as only he can.

I'd be lying if I didn't say my favorite part of the album is how much the last song makes me think of this. I'm easy like that.

Stream My Morning Jacket's New Album Circuital

Today is a good day for people that don't download leaked albums early as NPR is currently streaming My Morning Jacket's new album Circuital ahead of its May 31st release. The eleven song set has the interwebs a buzz about some mythical "return to form" for the Louisville based rockers but we never really thought they abandoned any form in the first place. Either way add another awesome album to the MMJ catalog and enjoy the goodness below.

In related news Jim James and company will be taking part in the Unstaged series with a Todd Haynes directed webcast of their performance at The Louisville Palace Theater on Tuesday. Assorted oddball promo videos have been made about the production like the one below suggesting attendees dress fancy. Looks like it's time to dust off your monocles.

Hello! Stream The Cast Recording Of The Book Of Mormon

Of all the exciting new album streams around these parts lately, I'm not sure I can pretend any had me as excited as what is currently gracing the interwebs courtesy of NPR in the form of the cast recording for The Book Of Mormon from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q's Robert Lopez. From all accounts the real thing is as great as you would expect if you have a working sense of humor, but this is the first time anyone that hasn't visited New York in 2011 has had a chance to hear some of the tunes. As a surprise to absolutely nobody they're amazing. Since a run through the album gives a good semblance of plot I don't want to talk too much about it, but I'd strongly recommend a listen or ten for fans.

As of now "Just like Jesus I'm growing a pair" may be might favorite line, but it certainly was not an easy decision. The album will see a digital release on May 17th and a physical release on June 7th. That's what she said.

Stream Wild Beasts' Awesome New Album Smother

We're only at the beginning of May and 2011 has already seen its fair share of fantastic new music whether it be super huge bands like Radiohead or the Foo Fighters, new bands like Middle Brother, or even old bands you never thought would get back together like The Cars. Thankfully this isn't a best of seven series or anything and we still have seven months ahead for even more goodness, but it's worth noting this month is especially strong. When Okkervil River's magnificent I Am Very Far hits shelves next week it will be joined by another really great album, Wild Beasts' Smother. I also say this coming from an extreme place of power in the sense that I've already listened to the album and I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

The follow up to 2009's Two Dancers, and the bands third full length sees the four piece extending the formula that has worked so well thus far, exemplified with the new album's wonderful single "Albatross". We'll try and get a review up soon enough but for now just enjoy the stream in all its legal authorized glory.  [via the guardian]

Stream Moves Like This, The Cars First Album In 24 Years

The list of things that are worth a twenty four year wait is pretty minimal. Of course the list would include sex, going to Benihana, a Who's The Boss? movie and a new album from the band that definitively proved being a rock star can land you a ridiculously hot girlfriend. Fans of the new wave legends will be pleasantly surprised to hear the latest addition to The Cars discography, Moves Like This, which is set for a May 10th release, picks up right where 1987's Door To Door left off, at a synth party. Thanks to Rolling Stone you can now preview the album in it's entirety for the next week, and while I may only be halfway through my first go around I can firmly declare so far so good. And yes, there will be hand claps.

Click this awesome link to open up a new window with the stream, then party like its 1985. Wait, what are you doing? Where's your monocle? Everyone wore a monocle in 1985, haven't you ever read a science book?

The Beastie Boys Are Streaming Hot Sauce Committee Part Two

If you spent any time on the internet over the weekend you probably heard about the amazing way the Beastie Boys streamed their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. A video of a boombox rocking the album at midcourt of an empty Madison Square Garden certainly is ridiculously cool, but it's not really ideal listening conditions when you are talking about the first new album from the legendary trio in four years. Fret not lovers of Hot Sauce and their respective committees, Mike D, Ad-Rock and  MCA have offered up a stream of the album sans boombox and Knicks logo.

If you missed it over the weekend you can check out the boombox stream below, but when you're ready to dig in you'll want to go the Soundcloud route. Then most likely head over to pre-order the new album before the May 3rd release. And yes, they do name drop Ted Danson so you know your money is going to a good place.

Stream Paul Simon's New Album "So Beautiful Or So What"

It would be nice if I could have listened to this before posting but that would mean that anyone who learns about NPR's stream of Paul Simon's new album "So Beautiful or So What" by reading this post will (theoretically) find out a half hour later than necessary. Sure I may have stayed at a Holiday Inn a few times in my life, but even aided by the hotel chain's magical healing powers I can't in good conscience keep anyone from new Paul Simon music. The legendary songwriter's first album since "Surprise" in 2006 hits shelves April 12th, so enjoy the stream while you can. That's what she said.

If you like a little visual with your Paul Simon audio be sure to tune to his appearances on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

Listen To One Of Middle Brother's Many Great SXSW Sets

It really goes without saying that NPR does the lord's work and by lord I of course mean Lord Susselberry of Edinterd, but that is neither here nor in Edinterd. One of the latest gems being offered up from their music utopia is a set from South By Southwest by none other than SHA favorites Middle Brother. Unfortunately there's no professional video of the set but that doesn't stop it from being memorable as you do get to hear a band member (sounds like John McCauley?) profess to their mom about the first time they tried acid. Considering how it all turned out I'm sure she is still pretty proud. Good times. Lesson to learn from this set? Shouting can be really expressive and sound pretty too.

Setlist

  • "Blue Eyes"
  • "Blood And Guts"
  • "Me Me Me"
  • "Someday"
  • "Thanks for Nothing"
  • "Middle Brother"
