Jimmy Fallon Channels Eddie Vedder With Linsanity Infused "Jeremy"

Jimmy Fallon once again brought the thunder in his pop culture cover song while impersonating a legendary artist bit, this time focusing on everyone's favorite Harvard basketball player Jeremy Lin. The wonderful cover choice was none other than Pearl Jam's "Jeremy", a not so subtle nod to the fact that if the media doesn't stop talking about Lin like he's Tony Danza, Jimmy Fallon is going to go all high school shooting on our asses. Thankfully he gets the message across in the poignant nod, going so far as to call the New York Knicks latest overhyped sensation a Harvard nerd. Your move Louis Skolnick.

As an aside it's still worth pointing out, even after the years of proof we now have, that Jimmy Fallon has the best talk show on television. Jimmy Fallon, for reals.

Watch Mavis Staples Cover Some Creedence With Jeff Tweedy

Here's a nice little performance of the Creedence Clearwater Revival tune "Wrote A Song For Everyone" by Mavis Staples and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy. The track is one of many covers that will appear on Staples new Tweedy produced album You Are Not Alone, as well as a couple new originals from the man himself. The legendary gospel singer's album is set for a September 14th release.   [via mojo]

Watch Marco Benevento Cover Some Pink Floyd And Elton John

Who wants to watch Marco Benevento do a little Fearless > Bennie and the Jets > Fearless?  Settle down kids, of course you do. Backed by Dave Dreiwitz on bass, who plays in a little band named Ween, as well as Andrew Barr on drums, Marco and company don the cover hat during a recent visit to the Moboogie Loft. You can check out the video below, if you're in to that sort of thing.

Fresh off a couple of runs with some of his other bands, Garage A Trois and Suprise Me Mr Davis, Marco next has the year's only scheduled Duo performance with current Furthur drummer Joe Russo on August 27th at the Highline Ballroom. The keyboard/organ wizard will also appear on the upcoming We Were So Turned On: A Tribute To David Bowie with a cover of "Art Decade". Never one with a case of the lazies, Marco has another tour with the Garage A Trois folks scheduled for the fall. Dates are available after the jump.

Phish Cover Tom Waits' Cold Water, Debut Idea In Portsmouth

As I alluded to earlier I've been out of town for a few days, and although my absence has coincided with the start of Phish's summer tour that is unfortunately not the reason for my absence. Hopefully you've been following my advice and are getting your fix over at YEMblog, so I'm not going to spend much time on what's been covered already as there is a treasure trove over there from the first few shows, which look pretty awesome from what I have seen.

Last night the fellas hit up nTelos Pavillion in Portsmouth, VA where they busted out a brand new tune with Mike on vocals called "Idea" as well as their first official Tom Waits cover in the form of "Cold Water".  Thanks to the awesomeness of a mister drewski1986 over at Etree you can now listen to them both below. The soundboards are also available from Live Phish, although I'd like to point out purchasing the recently released Live Phish App for $3.99 will also receive a download code for one free mp3 show of your choice.  Just saying.

Pearl Jam Cover Ain't Talking Bout Love In Hartford

Pearl Jam are currently in the midst of their May tour, which found them in Hartford, CT last night. Somehow this prompted  the band to debut a new cover dedicated to the UCONN womens basketball team. Eddie and I have never seen eye to eye on dedications. Either way we get the band doing their own take on some early Van Halen, which of course epitomizes Super Hella Awesome. Enjoy as McCready does his best EVH impersonation while Eddie Vedder filters David Lee Roth as the band rips through Ain't Talking Bout Love off of Van Halen's self titled 1978 debut. Rock.   [via all thats sacred]

Phish Bring Loving Cup To Fallon For Exile Week

As Keith Richards will tell you, here is Phish making their first late night performance in over six years last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The band was there to cap off the performances for Exile On Main Street week, where they knocked out Loving Cup, one of the regulars in their rotation. Seems that the fellas are looking and sounding good.  Summer tour can't get here fast enough.

For those itching to get some Big Red in their life the Hangout Festival takes place this weekend and iClips will be broadcasting it as part of their totally free totally awesome Couch Tour.  Trey's solo band will be headlining the festivities on Sunday night. Head over to iClips for the deets.

Ben Folds Covers Elliott Smith's Say Yes For The Onion

Piano man extraordinaire Ben Folds recently stopped by The Onion offices in Chicago to take part in their Undercover series. Instead of going the comic route Folds chose to cover Say Yes by the late great Elliott Smith. Folds and Smith have a history together as Folds even wrote a tribute song of sorts to Smith called Late off of Songs For Silverman in which he points out that Smith was a dirty basketball player.  Who knew?   [via avclub]

Beck's Record Club Covers Mediate With Terrible New Lyrics

Well then, I guess this is something. Here's the latest take on INXS Kick album from Beck's record club, with the crew tackling Mediate, which you may remember as the music video that had frontman Michael Hutchence holding a bunch of cue cards with some of the lyrics on them. For their interpretation, Liars' Angus Andrew takes the lead vocal with some oddly adjusted lyrics.  At least they didn't go the downers route on this cover but changing the lyrics to mention Jon and Kate several times?  Seriously? Are they scientologists too or something?

Also I'm pretty sure he said "rape an ape" at one point. I'd love to see whoever thought that one up give it a try.   [via stereogum]

Shatner And Asian Whitney Houston Bowl Cut Guy Sing A Duet

To be fair I haven't watched much of George Lopez's show mostly because I don't think he is funny or interesting. According to my sources there are some people out there that are in the same boat. Fortunately the internet is there to alert us to the awesome stuff that comes from unusual places.  Look no further than William Shatner's recent appearance on Lopez Tonight that sees the amazing crooner share the stage with that asian dude that did Whitney better than Whitney.

The bowl cut's name is Lin Yu Chun and he really pours his little heart into their take on Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart.  Shatner does his standard beatnik drunken sailor spoken word bit which is as awesome as usual, if not moreso paired with Chun's energy. It seems pretty clear that whenever science figures out how to clone humans we should make about two million Shatners.   [via warming glow]

Faith No More Cover Ben At Coachella

I'm sure you've heard about many of the shenanigans that went down at Coachella this weekend, or perhaps even witnessed them yourselves, so I won't bore you with much, but I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention the Faith No More performance.  Luckily it was part of the webcast so you can check it all out on youtube, but I've included their cover of the best song I know of about a rat, Ben by Michael Jackson.

Only Mike Patton could make crowd surfing during Ben seem appropriate.  I love that man.   [via the daily swarm]
