Friday's Foreign Covers: Dancing Queen

When I'm in a rush on a Friday like today I tend to go to the well of awesome that is Dr K Chaudhry. Here's the YouTube phenom doing his best ABBA impersonation to the tune of "Dancing Queen". The whole dancing/time of your life bit seemed to make sense on Phish at the Greek week and on top of that the performance is absolutely stellar. Has anyone ever enjoyed the extreme close-up more than Dr K? Well besides Wayne Campbell and Garth Alger of course. Proof positive that great minds really do think alike. Happy Friday everybody.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Wish You Were Here

Don't be thinking you have to record a crappy acoustic rendition in muffled tones to earn the coveted Friday's Foreign Covers badge, as this video proves you can also start your own Gregorian Chant cover band in Germany and give it an amazingly profound name like Gregorian. With the amazing news of the recent Roger Waters and David Gilmour gig, it seemed only fitting to cover some Pink Floyd this week, granted I was never expecting so many creepy robes to be involved.

Enjoy the extremely smooth droning of Gregorian's take on "Wish You Were Here". Then repent.

Friday's Foreign Covers: When The Going Gets Tough

This one counts, I double checked. The United Kingom's own E-45 are the self-proclaimed "Newest Boyband on the Block", and presumably really big E-40 fans. Here they take on the Billy Ocean classic "When The Going Gets Tough" complete with golf club mic stands and colored tank tops galore. It's really a passionate performance from a band you should clearly be keeping your eye out for.

Am I the only one that hears some Scott Stapp inspired growling in there?  Love it.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Love Really Hurts Without You

Prepare to have yourself adequately rocked. This week we've got a special gift coming straight to you from Spain, where amazing dancer Marin made this incredibly fancy video for his own take on the tune "Love Really Hurts Without You" made famous by the indelible Billy Ocean. I feel I should warn you, Marin spared no expense in the production of this video, or maybe he did, I'm not sure. Happy Friday.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Psycho Killer

The best I can tell is this awesome version of Psycho Killer by cover band Rocks Roll comes to us via Brazil, although I could be wrong. It seems like their site is in Portuguese and they have the .br at the end of their url but I'm no scientist, although the amazing synchronized swaying certainly looks scientific to me. Hot damn that's fancy. Unfortunately this one finishes prematurely. That's what she said.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Footloose

Every once in a while there's a time when you are on youtube and you stumble on a treasure trove of wonderment.  Such is the beauty of the internet. Today I was lucky enough to have one of those life affirming experiences, and it even fits in nicely as a foreign cover taboot.

Why didn't anybody tell me about the slush fund of awesome that was youtubing Menudo? Today was my first time but I can assure you it will not be my last. I've spent the last hour watching old clips over and over and I couldn't recommend the experience more, but for now you can take this version of Footloose as a sampler. The dance moves are so incredibly great your head might explode. Explode with awesome.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Bohemian Rhapsody

This definitely feels like the best Friday's Foreign Cover in a while. A passionate Japanese man singing a custom version of Bohemian Rhapsody with a bunch of puppets giving him support. I've never actually been to Japan but I imagine this is the kind of stuff happening in the airport when you land.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Arthur's Theme

It takes very little for my brain to jump to Christopher Cross whenever possible, so when I started writing the post about Helen Mirren being cast in the remake I started bumping some of C-Dub's greatest works.  Then it was time for Friday's Foreign Covers and only one song seemed appropriate.

At first I was wondering if the smooth sounds of Christopher Cross were even popular enough to be covered by legions of youtubers outside of the good ole USA, but what I found shouldn't have been that unexpected, everyone loves Christopher Cross.  The fact that most covers I stumbled upon were more of the classical fingerstyle guitar variety caught me by surprise, but I will say that it was a most awesome surprise.

The first video you see below is one of the aforementioned fingerstyle versions, done by Spanish youtuber chamacojesus.  It is ridiculously pretty and the whole thing is just fantastic.  Due to the fact that there are some of you out there that just can't handle instrumentals I have also included Brainge's version of the classic theme song, coming to you all the way from Portugal.

Friday's Foreign Covers: Come Pick Me Up

Earlier this week I read something about Ryan Adams making some music and it even had the insanely awesome quote that he "may have to dust off the bat signal this fall."  Considering that is Ryan Adams slang for tour dates, I've been in heavy listening/excitement mode. This usually is what leads me to finding a Friday's Foreign Cover, because believe it or not it's actually kind of hard to find them if you aren't looking for something specific.

Luckily when I rang the youtube doorbell, Spaniard dosantosmiamor was there to answer albeit without a shirt. Here is his nice take on one of the more familiar tunes in Adams' catalog, Come Pick Me Up.  If you like what you hear I should point out he also has versions of Halloweenhead and Oh My Sweet Carolina posted.  Happy Friday everyone.

Friday's Foreign Covers: God Only Knows

The weather is incredibly awesome outside and usually when that happens I end up bumping ridiculous amounts of The Beach Boys.  This inevitably leads me to youtube looking for randomly awesome performances by the Wilson brothers, and seeing as though it is Friday I started looking for some nice covers.

For this week we have a special performance of one of the greatest songs of all time, and that's not even hyperbole.  Coming to you all the way from Germany, let me present you with Zwakkelmann and his wonderfully energetic version of God Only Knows.
