Golden Globes

68th Golden Globe Nominations Are Here, Hilarious

It's that time of year when the worst of all the film awards shows announces their nominees. Yes I'm talking about the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and their usually mostly ridiculous nominations for the Golden Globes Awards. Don't get me wrong they do a lot of stuff right, but they also have the dumb Comedy Or Musical awards that are reserved for popularity contests instead of quality films.

This year's big winners in quantity are The King's Speech with seven nominations, while The Fighter  and The Social Network each received six and thank god they didn't give Timberlake a nod as these are the douchenozzles most likely to open that Pandora's box. Johnny Depp is cool and all, for serious, but Alice In Wonderland and The Tourist were terrible at best. As for the big nominations in the drama field they seem to be pretty right on, although I assume True Grit should be on the list, I just can't confirm that at this time. What are your thoughts on this year's nominees?

The television nominations are available at the HFPA site if you are interested but they are usually a season behind so it feels like you're looking at three years ago's nominations. I'm looking at you Temple Grandin and You Don't Know Jack. On the plus side Katey Sagal got a way overdue nomination for her stellar work on Sons Of Anarchy, unfortunately it's a Golden Globe.

Ricky Gervais To Return As Golden Globes Host

Looks like the Hollywood Foreign Press enjoyed Ricky Gervais' efforts as last year's Golden Globes host as it has just been announced the funnyman will return to host next year's edition. For some reason I don't remember him doing anything special at the Globes, aside from the expected jabs, although I remember not being annoyed as much as usual. That has to be a good thing. The ratings also increased which probably have a little more to do with the decision than my personal preference, but bygones be bygones. The festivities will take place and air on NBC January 16th.   [via the envelope]

Brendan Fraser Hollaback Girl Clap Remix

Sometimes you get the internet, and sometimes the internet gets you.  This is one of those cases.  One minute and four seconds of Brendan Fraser's awesomely weird clap from the Golden Globes remixed with Gwen Stefani's Hollaback Girl.  From youtube user and remix maker DisneyDude

I saw this clip of Brendan during the Golden Globes, and knew I had to make something out of it. The inspiration came from wanting a song with clapping and hearing this on the radio driving home. I saw Brendan Fraser on Lopez Tonight, and seeing how he was able to laugh at himself, I figure he would laugh at this as well....hopefully. Enjoy!!

Of course this is all in good fun, I do not own rights to either the video or music. I would love for Brendan Fraser to see this....that would be awesome.

And no I didn't paste that last part twice on accident, DisneyDude felt it was such an important part of his overall message that he felt he needed to repeat himself.  Can you really blame him?  Awesome work interwebs.  [the daily what]

The nominees for the 2010 Golden Globe Awards were announced today.  Jason Reitman's George Clooney starring Up In The Air leads all films with 6 nominations while the Rob Marshall ensemble musical Nine clocks in with five nominations of its own, granted that probably has a lot to do with the Globe's separate category for comedy or musical. All the nominees for the film categories are listed below For the official news release including the television nominees, head over to the official Golden Globes site.

This year's broadcast will be hosted by Ricky Gervais and will take place January 17th on NBC.
