Listen To Last Night's My Morning Jacket Spring Tour Opener

So My Morning Jacket started their little spring tour last night at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham and my favorite person at the moment, Taylor Caine, who is undoubtedly blessed with awesomeness beyond belief, went ahead and taped the show and has already posted it over at the Live Music Archive for our listening pleasure.  The fellas were even joined by openers Preservation Hall Jazz Band for the last few songs of the evening.

Ben Folds Does Chatroulette Ode To Merton Live In Concert

See video

I can't pretend for a second to be even the slightest bit objective when it comes to Ben Folds.  I've pretty much been in love with everything the man has ever done, and when it comes down to live shows, he's pretty hard to beat.  Not many people have the balls to spend ten minutes at one of their concerts playing Chatroullete on a giant screen behind the stage.  Then again not many people have that much awesome in them either.   Of course this is a nod to Merton, the piano playing chatroulette guy, complete with Folds in costume.  Good times.

You'll probably want to be picking up some tickets for the Ben Folds and a Piano tour after watching this video.  You can pick those up at Ticketmaster.  Rock.

Umphrey's McGee Visit Street Date Studios

Here is the video from Umphrey's McGee's recent visit to Street Date studios to perform two tracks off of Mantis for a small studio audience. The band chose the rocking 1348 to start things off and then the poppier side of Umphrey's gets displayed with Made To Measure.  I'm certainly not going to make the case that this is the best recorded Umphrey's McGee you can hear out there, but it is a good quality video recording and new and by god it's St. Patrick's Day.

You can also check out the "Day In The Life" video the band made from their visit to NYC that day that features some Reelin In The Years as well as the band prepping their cover of Lisztomania by Phoenix.  Rock.

Listen To The Jim James Valentine's Day Show

It's a shame Jim James doesn't hit the road solo more often because he really is just fantastic in that format.  Of course he's also amazing when he's rocking with lots of people.  He's kind of like Dirk Diggler in that way.  Anyhoo the awesome You Ain't No Picasso just put up audio from the My Morning Jacket frontman's Valenine's Day Louisville Is For Lovers show.  It's pretty great and you can stream the entire show over there, or you can download the entire show from bporter over at etree.  Rock.

I've included a couple of my favorite tunes from the evening that you can check out below.

Local Natives Do A Take-Away Show At The Fair

The always awesome Take Away Shows from La Blogotheque had a particularly enjoyable session with Super Hella Awesome favorites Local Natives.  The session takes place in St Malo, France and sees the band head to a fair and perform on a merry-go-round, then to the beach, and finally a bar.  Apparently the band was really pumped.

We knew they were enthusiastic before we even met them. As proof, their Saturday Twitter update announced: “filming for La Blogotheque in St. Malo today... psyched out of my mind for our take away shows !" More than just enthusiastic, they arrived full of ideas, desires, and kindness; their enthusiasm was hard to keep in check. We wanted to bring them to the fun fair near the docks. There, they ran excitedly from ride to ride. We barely had time to ask the operator for permission before they climbed onto the haunted house ride! All this in a cacophony of sounds, cries, background music and the smell of cotton candy. The scene was a little incompatible with the idea of playing music...moving away from the madness, we found a quieter area. “Merry-go-round!” the Local Natives exclaimed to each other. The children on the ride found themselves in the company of the band, who quickly commandeered airplanes and horses to harmonise in concert.  [via take-away shows]

Of course if you want to familiarize yourself with their awesome new album you can check out the NPR stream.  Enjoy.

Watch Broken Bells Do Crimson And Clover, New Album

See video

Last Friday night Broken Bells made their public debut at the Fold In Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles.  Early reports claim it was a success, but now you can be the judge, sorta.  For what I assume to be a limited time video of almost the entire set is available for you online thanks to youtuber Foundtrack.  The band played the ten songs off their upcoming album as well as two covers, Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and the video included above, the final song of the evening Tommy James and the Shondells' Crimson and Clover.  Nice choice.

And just because you're already familiar with the first video from this awesome Danger Mouse and James Mercer collaboration, let's check it out in the live setting.  The self titled debut album will be released March 9th.  Rock.  [via consequence of sound]

Mumford And Sons Bring Little Lion Man To Letterman

See video

I've been obsessing over the new Mumford and Sons album Sigh No More for the last few weeks.  Somehow I missed this yesterday but they appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman on Wednesday night and performed my favorite track off the album Little Lion Man.  The band played NYC last night, but the rest of their calendar appears to be rocking their socks off in Europe for a while.  Fortunately those brave souls heading to that thing they call Bonnaroo will be able to catch the band there, along with a couple of other acts.

Shawn Smith Solo Set In Portland Tonight!

Seattle legend Shawn Smith of Satchel, Pigeonhead, Brad, and solo fame will be opening for Super Sonic Soul Pimps tonight, February 12th, at Berbat's Pan in Portland.  Sorry for the lack of advance notice but I just found out myself.  Luckily Super Hella Awesome happens to have a secret agent in Portland to *hopefully* report on the show for us.  We'll keep you updated.  Of course the real excitement takes place next week when Satchel takes the stage for the first time in 13 years.

If you're on the fence about going and wondering what this Shawn Smith character is all about why don't you check out the shaky but nice little video below of Shawn rocking Buttercup.

You can also check out a pretty awesome podcast interview that was done by Jim Hutchinson, from his website Jim On Light, with Umphrey's McGee lighting designer Jefferson Waful.  There is even some Chris Kuroda and Phish talk in there for those that are so inclined.  You can listen to the podcast below or head over to the original post for a download.

The band recently announced the fifth installment of their Stew Art series set to take place January 23rd at the Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, CO.  They are on the road now and as per usual are hitting pretty much everywhere so make sure and check them out when they come to a town near you.
