Tour Dates

Fishman Gets Buff For First Leg Of Phish's Summer Tour

In what is unquestionably their greatest announcement video to date, Phish has revealed the dates for the first leg of their summer tour. Aside from a three night stop at Atlantic City's Bader Field, there are no other first time venues, granted this part of tour usually covers a bunch of the band's favorite haunts. The ticket lottery is currently underway with the official onsales taking place March 16th and 17th. As per the now standard tradition, additional dates for the summer tour, which you can safely assume should have a somewhat west coast bias, will be announced in the spring. Rock.

To enter the lottery up until March 12th at 11:59 am EST head over to Phish Tickets. For details on the Bader Field shows the band has set up one of their quirky info pages here.

Enjoy Summer Tour!

Fiona Apple Announces Short Tour

It's all happening people, Fiona is hitting the road. After a handful of sold out shows with her pals over at Largo towards the end of last year, the great Fiona Apple is now hitting the road for a short tour, her first since backing 2005's fantastic Extraordinary Machine. The best part is these gigs will presumably be showing off some of her new material, at least if that guy from that tv show that makes records is to be believed.

Tickets for the newly announced shows aside from the SXSW appearance go on sale this Friday, February 24th. Get them while you can as these shows certainly will sell out. Hooray Fiona, welcome back.

Ryan Adams Details New Album Ashes & Fire, West Coast Tour

The greatness that is Ryan Adams recently detailed the most exciting album of 2011, his latest solo effort titled Ashes & Fire, for which Congress has added a special session to debate declaring the October 11th release date a national holiday. While we await word on the political ramifications of the new album, it's worth noting Norah Jones will be joining in on some backing vocals, an especially promising thought when you recall the haunting beauty of the pair's previous work together on "Dear John" from the fantastic Jacksonville City Lights. For the latest effort Adams kept things in the family by employing Glyn Johns in the producer's chair, the father of his usual solo album producer, Ethan Johns. Of course this wasn't just throwing him a bone as the elder Johns has worked with some artists you might have heard of like The Rolling Stones, The Who, and some band called The Beatles.

To coincide with the eleven song set, the legendary (yes, he is a legend) songwriter will pack up his acoustic and notebook for a solo tour up the west coast starting in San Diego on the presumed new national holiday. While he taunts with my emotions and skips a Los Angeles gig, there is a ton of fun involved for those bigger fans that might be taking a week off work as there will be stops in Napa, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, a San Francisco proper show as well as a visit to the hippies up in Eugene, Oregon. Either way some awesome times ahead. Tickets for the newly announced shows will go on sale this Friday with details and those types of shenanigans available at the official Pax-Am Records site.

Pearl Jam Announces PJ20 Labor Day Details With The Strokes, Mudhoney

We've known for a long time that Pearl Jam was going to host a festival-like event this summer to celebrate the band's twentieth anniversary. Unfortunately we didn't know when or where, although "somewhere in the middle of the country" was thrown out to help us narrow it down. Today the band has finally answered this question officially, confirming the long rumored shenanigans will take place at Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin over Labor Day weekend. The latest anniversary celebrating is of course in addition to the numerous reissues the band has put together this year, as well as the upcoming Cameron Crowe directed documentary of the band rumored to be out in the early fall. Woo hoo, Pearl Jam fun.

As for the actual concert the term festival should probably be thrown out and replaced with "guest heavy shows" or something along those lines as each day will be ticketed separately and seemingly nothing will be all that different from a normal show than the amount of openers. Don't get me wrong the openers have some firepower in The Strokes, Mudhoney and Queens of the Stone Age, but they're also going the songwriter route with Liam Finn, Joseph Arthur and Glen Hasnard. For safety's sake we'll leave punk legend John Doe in his own classificiation. It certainly sounds like a grand old time but let's be honest, this is only slightly more appealing than your standard Pearl Jam show, which isn't exactly a bad thing.

What is a bad thing is how the band's biggest fans, those who are paid members of the Ten Club, are somewhat getting the shaft from their favorite musicians. To obtain fan club tickets you must buy tickets to both shows but you only have two options: The "Reserved/GA Weekend Package" or a "General Admission Weekend Package". "Well those don't seem all that bad!" you shout in your corduroy and flannel. Fine, maybe not to you, but what if they replace the words "general admission" with "lawn". How does that sound? Essentially all that's happening here is that if you are a member of the Ten Club and you want to go to see Pearl Jam's special anniversary show in Wisconsin you have to buy at least one lawn ticket to the show. The same lawn tickets people will be trying to give away outside because nobody ever wants to sit in the lawn unless they are under the legal drinking age. Paying for the privelage to not be able to get reserved seats to both nights is insulting, and I'm not even a Ten Club member.

Phish Announce Labor Day Shows In Colorado To Close Tour

The long rumored Phish shows at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado over Labor Day weekend are now official. The three night weekend stand, which will take place a little over two weeks after the last dates on their itinerary, are being billed as "the last announced by the band for the Summer and Fall", so for those needing the last bit of a fix until a hopeful New Year's run this is all you've got. Well of course there's those other two legs of tour including a wonderfully scenic west coast run, but this is where it ends.

For all the complaining Phish fans do about awkward tour routing and bias, it's worth noting the opportunities the band has presented to their fans for a weekend of Phishing. The tour is bookended by holiday weekends that feature three night stands while the band took the one major summer holiday and made it Superball IX. It's safe to assume the Labor Day weekend events won't feature ferris wheels and the like, but the Colorado dates do offer onsite camping on "the lush soccer fields adjacent to the stadium". Replace soccer with polo and you have the exact Festival 8 camping description. If it goes down that smoothly we're all in for quite a weekend.

The lottery is currently underway for the newly announced shows through Phish ticketing and will conclude at noon EST on Monday, May 23rd.

Australian Rockers Tame Impala Announce North American Tour

One of our favorite albums of last year was the debut album Innerspeaker from Australian rockers Tame Impala. Of course we offered up some evidence for our case with their fantastic appearance on Morning Becomes Eclectic, but now you can see for yourself as the Perth natives have announced a small North American tour on the heels of their Coachella appearance. If I promise you will hear some heavy late Beatles influences in there does that help get you more excited?

Tickets for the newly announced shows, with support from UK band Yuck will go on sale this weekend. If you've been slow in your planning it's worth noting that the hipster party in the desert is already sold out.   [via the audio perv]

Fleet Foxes Announce New Album Helplessness Blues, Share Title Track

When one delivers a promise on Twitter of a "big announcement tomorrow", they best follow up for fear of the attack of a million internet literalists. Mike Gordon Announces March Tour Dates

Not to be outdone by his Phish bandmate Trey Anastasio, our favorite purple pants wearing bassist Mike Gordon just announced an eighteen date cross-country tour this coming March in support of his most recent release Moss. Interestingly enough Cactus will start his tour on the west coast the same day Trey is rocking San Francisco to close out his tour. Happy times for the west coast.

As per usual Mike will be joined by Scott Murawski on guitar, Craig Myers on percussion, Tom Cleary on keyboards and Brooklyn drummer Todd Isler. While you're not just going to see random dudes jamming along onstage, it looks to be a magical affair. Get it, because there's magic in the video. Broken Social Scene's Texico Bitches Oil Wrestle And Fall In Love

Ever since the release of Broken Social Scene's awesome Forgiveness Rock Record, I have been more than a bit curious what exactly "Texico Bitches" are like. Now thanks to this Thibaut Duverneix directed video for the track my questions have been answered. Whoever had two guys oil wrestling and falling in love to the dismay of the locals wins the pool, welcome to the fruit of the month club.

The Canadian collective also recently announced some early 2011 dates with presales for the new shows starting December 15th through GalleryAC. General onsales start December 17th.   [via pitchfork]

Deer Tick's John McCauley And Ian O'Neil Announce Acoustic Shows

Well this is pretty gosh darn exciting albeit it without any love for the west coast. After releasing one of my favorite albums of the year in The Black Dirt Sessions, Deer Tick frontman John McCauley will be joined by the other guy that plays guitar and sings in his band, Ian O'Neil, for a small run of acoustic shows on the east coast in January. Adding to the awesome is the description of what will be performed: Deer Tick numbers old and new mixed in with some covers, as well as songs from McCauley's super exciting side project Middle Brother, which sees McCauley joined by fellow frontmen Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes and Matt Vasquez of Delta Spirit. That's a healthy heaping of awesome right there so the news that their songs will be making their way out in to the wild is pretty radical, now if they could just head out west.    [via grimy goods]
