Stream Fiona Apple's New Typically Awesome Long-Titled Album

Posts have admittedly been few and far between lately but I couldn't forgive myself if I didn't pass along the greatness of Fiona Apple's first album in seven years streaming online. She's the best. I can't talk much now because I'm just about to listen to it a hundred times in a row.

As per usual you can thank the fine folks over at NPR for the stream. Then buy The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw, And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do when it comes out June 19th. Then go see Fiona on tour. Then pray for a shorter wait for the next album.

Fishman Gets Buff For First Leg Of Phish's Summer Tour

In what is unquestionably their greatest announcement video to date, Phish has revealed the dates for the first leg of their summer tour. Aside from a three night stop at Atlantic City's Bader Field, there are no other first time venues, granted this part of tour usually covers a bunch of the band's favorite haunts. The ticket lottery is currently underway with the official onsales taking place March 16th and 17th. As per the now standard tradition, additional dates for the summer tour, which you can safely assume should have a somewhat west coast bias, will be announced in the spring. Rock.

To enter the lottery up until March 12th at 11:59 am EST head over to Phish Tickets. For details on the Bader Field shows the band has set up one of their quirky info pages here.

Enjoy Summer Tour!

Johnny Cash Shows What A Real Man's To-Do List Looks Like

Look at all of us with our fancypants smart phones and our productivity apps like Evernote and Springpad. So silly. Then there's the legendary Johnny Cash, with his pen and his paper and his incredible will. Okay, maybe he needs to remind himself to have some willpower, I'll give you that. Either way this is without question the best to-do list of all time, aside from that one day I spiked Tony Danza's morning coffee with acid and made him make one himself. "Show Angela who the boss is" is not ten different tasks.  [via letters of note]

Jimmy Fallon Channels Eddie Vedder With Linsanity Infused "Jeremy"

Jimmy Fallon once again brought the thunder in his pop culture cover song while impersonating a legendary artist bit, this time focusing on everyone's favorite Harvard basketball player Jeremy Lin. The wonderful cover choice was none other than Pearl Jam's "Jeremy", a not so subtle nod to the fact that if the media doesn't stop talking about Lin like he's Tony Danza, Jimmy Fallon is going to go all high school shooting on our asses. Thankfully he gets the message across in the poignant nod, going so far as to call the New York Knicks latest overhyped sensation a Harvard nerd. Your move Louis Skolnick.

As an aside it's still worth pointing out, even after the years of proof we now have, that Jimmy Fallon has the best talk show on television. Jimmy Fallon, for reals.

Brad Announces New Album United We Stand

Considering the amount of time that passed between the release of the last two albums from Seattle rockers Brad, a somewhat excrutiating eight years, I sort of assumed 2010's Best Friends was going to have to tide me over for a half decade at the very least. Thankfully the assume cliche did its thing as Shawn Smith and company have announced their fifth studio album United We Stand, set for an April 24th release. For the measley price of an email address, you can download the first single "A Reason To Be In My Skin" over at the official site. I'd recommend doing exactly that, the new song is a doozy.

For those that like good music or simply just want to see Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard playing in a really small rock club you should head to one of these newly announced shows.
  • April 27 - Showbox at the Market, Seattle, WA
  • May 3 - The Troubadour, Los Angeles, CA
  • May 4 - Cafe Du Nord, San Francisco, CA

Fiona Apple Announces Short Tour

It's all happening people, Fiona is hitting the road. After a handful of sold out shows with her pals over at Largo towards the end of last year, the great Fiona Apple is now hitting the road for a short tour, her first since backing 2005's fantastic Extraordinary Machine. The best part is these gigs will presumably be showing off some of her new material, at least if that guy from that tv show that makes records is to be believed.

Tickets for the newly announced shows aside from the SXSW appearance go on sale this Friday, February 24th. Get them while you can as these shows certainly will sell out. Hooray Fiona, welcome back.

The Darkness Get Animated For "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us"

Here is the newest song from the best British band of our generation, and no Radiohead fans I didn't forget about them. As fans of The Darkness have come to expect, the new tune "Nothin's Gonna Stop Us" comes with an amazing video, this time of the animated variety albeit with a Prince cameo (our Prince not theirs). Rolling Stone premiered the video earlier today and had this little blurb to share:

"The video turned out ace. I've always been a fan of Thom Lessner's illustrations, so I was delighted when he and Ted Passon agreed to make it," says frontman Justin Hawkins. "They have really captured the vibe of the song. I've watched the video a thousand times already and I love every second of it. I suppose 'Nothin's Gonna Stop Us' has matured like a fine wine and Thom Lessner and Ted Passon are our master sommeliers. I knew they wouldn't cork it. Bottoms up!"

Aces mate, aces. The brothers Hawkins and company have been doing the reunited thing over the last year on the other side of the pond, but thankfully that's all about to change as the band is bringing their in your face rock stateside starting with tonight's sold out show in Toronto. If you have no heart conditions or an allergy to rock music I strongly suggest checking out one of their upcoming shows.

Air handlebar mustache for the win.

Watch tUnE-yArDs Do A Tiny Desk Concert

It's officially December which means you are about to get inundated with best of lists, and as a lazy segue how about we watch some of the songs from one of my favorite albums of the year being performed in a crowded office? Thanks to the gift that keeps on giving, NPR, you can see Merrill Garbus and the rest of tUne-yArDs rock three tunes from their fantastic album w h o k i l l. If by chance you have no clue about the band, I recommend at least a test viewing as Garbus has quite the way of drawing you in, mainly by being incredibly awesome.

Stream The (Amazing) New Ryan Adams Album Ashes And Fire

I'm pretty much a blubbering mess right now and that is not a fat joke thank you very much. Thanks to the wonderful people over at NPR we can all now stream the great Ryan Adams brand new album Ashes And Fire. While the album won't officially hit shelves until October 11th, the preview should allow for plentiful listens of the legal variety ahead of the street date at which time we should all buy multiple copies of the new album to make the greatest living songwriter not named Brian Wilson feel loved. A segue of sorts to the theme of the new album, but I'll let you decide. Listen away, it's great.

Those not partaking in the super sold out west coast shows following the album's release will also be happy to learn Adams has announced a new set of US dates starting on December 2nd in Philadelphia. As has been the case with his latest outings these shows will feature Ryan solo, otherwise known as a show you can't miss. Dates and stream below. Happy days.
