Furthur Festival Announced For Memorial Day Weekend

Furthur recently added the poster above to their website with no other details.  One would assume the Mountain Aire mentioned would be the same area up in Angel's Camp, CA that hosted the Mountain Aire festivals of yore.  Quite a bit of detailed analysis there huh.  We'll keep you updated with details as we hear them but for anyone out west that was looking for something fun to do over Memorial Day weekend you just got yourself a pretty swell option.  Let's hope Furthur drummer Joe Russo brings his buddy Marco Benevento along, wouldn't that be swell. Brad Announces New Album Best Friends, Gig With Friends

I guess when it rains Shawn Smith, it really pours.  Not only is that whole Satchel reunion thing going on, but now there is also news of a soon to be released Brad album, the side project Shawn enjoys with his most famous friend, guitarist Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam.  The album titled Best Friends is set to be "released in the US very shortly" and will be available through the Ten Club, and presumably most digital outlets too.

What fun is a new album without a gig though?  Apparently not much as the band has just announced the extremely awesome sounding An Intimate Evening With Brad and Friends set for March 14th at the Showbox at the Market in SeattleFor this specific intimate evening the band will be joined by Satchel and the Hank Choir, while some of the friends that will be featured include Jeff Ament, Bruce Fairweather, Greg Gilmore, Kevin Wood, and Steve Fisk.  The announcement even includes the acknowledgement that Brad will indeed be playing tunes from their new album.  Good times.

Tickets for the show go on sale today March 3rd at 10am PST through the Ten Club with a general onsale set to take place March 5th, same bat time.  The public onsale will take place through Ticketmaster right here.   Good luck.

UMBOWL 4th Quarter Announced, On Sale Next Week

Umphrey's McGee continues their attempt to blur the line between band and fans with the announcement of their 2010 UMBowl.  Today comes the official explanation of the 4th Quarter as well as ticketing details, which include an extremely reasonable $99 pricetag.  I know some may consider this expensive for a "smaller" band, but having been privy to the band's behavior at one of their equally priced, albeit more exclusive S2 events, I have no doubts that the fans lucky enough to get tickets will be getting their walletsworth.  And then some.

Presale tickets go on sale March 3rd at noon CT through UMTicketing with the public onsale March 5th, same bat time, through Lincoln Hall Ticketing.  Good luck.  For more details head to UMBowl headquarters.

As you know, we don't believe in letting things wind down, so we are gonna take it up a level in the UMBowl's 4th Quarter (Q4). For Q4, YOU are the quarterback. Here is how it will work. The band will begin a set of UM classics, and along the way, you will be able to "call an audible" by texting in your vote as to which direction the band should go in.

As an example:

"Intentions Clear" begins, and four choices will be projected onto the screen:

A. Segue into a cover
B. Take the song into evil, minor key jam
C. Compose on the fly a soaring, major key "Jimmy Stewart," then return to Intentions Clear
D. Zappa-esque jam into Bridgeless

Voting occurs via text message and Offensive Coordinator Kevin will tally the votes and transmit the instructions to the band – you won't know what choice was made until the band begins to play it. You pick the plays and determine the strategy to make a killer set . . . the ebb and flow is up to you.

Paul McCartney Brings Up & Coming Tour To Hollywood Bowl

One of the many advantages of living in Los Angeles is having a historic venue that gets people excited.  I know this is nothing specific to Los Angeles but a night at the Hollywood Bowl has its own unique appeal that gets lost amongst the Gorges and Red Rocks of the world.  Apparently this year's Bowl season is going to get off to a pretty spectacular start considering that the newest, and first, show on the schedule is none other than Sir Paul McCartney.

The ex-Beatle's show is set for March 30th with tickets scheduled to go on sale this Sunday February 28th, with American Express and Fan Club presales beginning tomorrow.  There is also a rumor going around that a second show will be added for March 31st after the inevitable sellout Sunday, we'll keep you posted.  Tickets for the show will be sold through Ticketmaster and available here.

Of course for those not in Los Angeles, full tour details should be announced soon. For now the only other show is a March 28th engagement in Glendale, AZ at the historic Jobing.com Arena.  Sweet name.  Those tickets can be found here.

Nateva Festival Announces Headliners, Some More Acts

The lineup for the inaugural Naveta Festival is slowly starting to take shape.  The festival  announced The Flaming Lips as a headliner as soon as the festival's existence was announced, but now we have some other headliners, as well as a better understanding of the theme.

The Nateva Music & Camping Festival is a 3-day, multi stage outdoor camping event to be held July 2nd, 3rd & 4th at the beautiful 100 acre Oxford Fairgrounds – 2 hours and 25 minutes from Boston and 45 minutes from Portland, Maine. As New England’s premier Jam based music festival, we look forward to bringing you world class artists in the true Jam Band tradition – as well as a sweet mix of Country, Folk, Reggae, Classic Rock and Indie Artists too.

Their headliners certainly drive home the jam band emphasis.  While the previously announced headliner The Flaming Lips will hold down the Saturday spot, the rest of the nights have a nice mix of the entire jam band spectrum.  Furthur has been announced as the headliner for the 4th of July, while moe. will handle the Friday evening duties.  Even though the website information consistently state the dates as July 2-4 they have announced the up and comping Lotus as the Thursday headliner for "those weekend campers that wish to come early".  No word yet on if there will be other bands playing on Thursday.

Other additions to the lineup include The Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi Band, Zappa Plays Zappa, Keller Williams, and Moonalice.  We'll update you with lineup additions as they come.  Tickets are on sale now through the Nateva Festival website.

The Goonies 25th Anniversary Party Sounds Awesome

If you're at all like anyone I enjoy spending time with, you clearly recognize the greatness that is the Richard Donner directed 1985 film The Goonies.  Seeing as though it is now 2010 my math instincts tell me that it is also the 25th Year Anniversary of the legendary action adventure.  Seems like it needs a party right?  Well this one is all that and then some, and by some I mean FELDMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coming this summer in Astoria Oregon The cast and filmmakers of The Goonies will ascend upon the fishing town once known as the GoonDocks and will once again take the football field where it all started. The Oregon film commission is presenting a special 4 day event open to everybody who can afford a ticket. As part of this Goonie experience which celebrates and marks the 25th anniversary of the film, there will be tours of all of the practical locations from the film. Including Mickey and Data’s houses, and the Jail from the Fratelli’s jail break scene at the opening of the film, and even a new museum loaded with actual props from the film. But thats not all……many of the original cast members will be on hand (all of which are yet to be announced)……but I will definitely be there…..and so will TRUTH MOVEMENT!

Thats right you heard me correctly…there will be a huge concert thrown to rock the weekend into place. Headlining that weekends concert series will be none other than yours truly!!!!  So start planning now. June 4th through 7th in Astoria, Oregon the Goonies meet the Truth Movers.  [via the feldman journal]

Holy awesomefest Batman!  You mean Truth Movement of Mosa and the Truth Movement fame? Unreal, Corey Feldman's Truth Movement playing in the town where Goonies was filmed during a Goonies party.  It's almost too much to take.  We even have details now, honest, this is really happening, and it's taking 4 days!  This post has so many exclamation points!

Cast Members That Will Be Attending Include:

Corey Feldman, who played Mouth

Curt Hanson, who portrayed Mr. Perkins – the richest man in Astoria.

We are in conversations with several other cast members and producers about their attendance at the event and will know soon if their schedule will allow for them to join us. We’ll announce them here as soon as we know!

Goonies Concert

A Goonies themed concert at Warren Field, as seen in the opening of the film, with performances by:
Truth Movement – Corey Feldman’s Pink Floyd inspired class rock band will start their 2010 summer tour here in Astoria.

The Ataris – Alternative band whose album in 2003 titled So Long, Astoria references their love of the film and a trip they took to Astoria to see the Goonies sites. Currently touring worldwide in support of their 6th album, The Graveyard of the Atlantic.

The Whiskey Rebellion – An acoustic, bluegrass band with YouTube hit “The Ballad of Chester Copperpot”

Troy’s Bucket – A pop-punk band from Southern California named after a memorable scene in the Goonies

The Hangout Beach Festival Lineup Is Here!

Music on the beach is one of the many under utilized tools in our insanely over-saturated society, luckily The Hangout Beach Music and Arts Festival is trying to take care of that.  Set to take place from May 14-16, the inaugural event will take place directly on the white beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama".  There are expected to be more than 60 artists taking part with four stages including "two main stages rising from the sand itself."

Animal Collective Transverse Temporal Gyrus At Guggenheim

Just when I thought UMBowl 2010 was alone in the coolest band event competition, Animal Collective goes and announces this crazy mess of awesome.  On March 4th the band will join with their visual partner Danny Perez to turn the Guggenheim Museum into "a kinetic, psychedlic environment".  The site specific performance is going by the name Transverse Temporal Gyrus and will feature "original recorded music composed specifically for the work along with video projections, costumes, and props, rendering the band members and performers into intense, visual abstractions."

Of course with a name like Animal Collective you got to get all naturey and stuff.

One of the things that you notice almost immediately in the jungle are the birds; so many different sounds coming from so many different directions. Are they communicating to each other? What are they saying? Does each variation serve a purpose? Why are there repetitions? Is there a pattern or is that just your imagination? If you don’t know the first thing about bird songs, these questions can rack a brain for days. The jungle seems louder than most New York apartments but its symbiosis makes it subtler if not more pleasing to foreign ears. The longer you sit awake in bed listening at night, the more you hear. It brings to mind Jane Goodall hanging out with chimpanzees in Tanzania and how she noticed them reacting to distant or inaudible sounds that at first she couldn’t hear, but as her ears adapted to the environment after months she began to hear them too.

But as the environments around us change quickly, as people encroach more and more on land where only select symbioses occur, we wonder how this will change the sounds around us and how this alters the way we hear things and react to them. As New Yorkers we are all familiar with the everyday noise around us—the car alarms, the subway trains braking, the music in bars—so familiar that sometimes we drown them out. But then do we not realize how these sounds are affecting us? How they make us feel or act? With this in mind we wanted to create an environment where people could take some time to listen to other kinds of sounds and get away from those familiar sounds of the city. Keeping in mind the birds of the jungle, we’ve created an array of sounds with Animal Collective's music that is seemingly random...or is it? We invite you to come take some time out and sit with us. As time passes it is our hope that you will wonder if you are hearing songs or patterns or maybe simply hearing more. The visual work of Danny Perez has been incorporated to turn the environment of an empty museum into a more mysterious hideaway. The core elements and colors are worked into the piece in order to unite this room of sound with the inside of your brain. We hope you enjoy.

Thanks for joining us.
